I have a 1985 Terry travel trailer. Packing it this evening my 5 yr old told us the door was giving him a shock.

If you touch unpainted surfaces such as the door and awning arms while standing bare feet on the ground you get a tingle.

What is this from?

Is it dangerous?

Should I not use it this weekend?

please help

Sounds like a wire is shorting out to the frame of the trailer. 12 volts "usually" does not shock. Assuming this shock is 110 volts - unplug your electric connection and it should stop shocking. At least this way you'll know where it's coming from. If you unplug your electric connection and still get shocked, then there is something going on (in the ground) where you are parked, and not your TT.
If it is your TT, then it would be dangerous to use it until you find the problem. For example you could stand in a puddle and touch the trailer and get electrocuted.

You are missing some information ....

Did you feel this or just your 5 year old

Is the trailer hooked up to shore power

If you have shoes on do you still feel this

Check our extension cord. It sounds like you have a missing ground pin.

I would not use it until I found the problem... without knowing the cause it is difficult to say just how dangerous it might be...

This would be my guess. Wires in the outlet are wired backwards.

If it doesn't do it with the 120v unplugged, then that is likely where the problem is and I wouldn't plug into shore power until you get a chance to search out the issue. The trailer you could still use for dry camping and it shouldn't be a issue. If it still does it with the trailer unplugged I would be really careful around the trailer and keep your kids away from it until you find what it is.

Could be your outlet you are plugged into or your cord, if it does it on known good outlet, replace / repair cord as you rv grounds from the wire in the cord. Also be very careful small children are at a much higher risk from electrcal shock , lower voltage or amperage will harm them.
