Got the same interest rate without the house... what does a house mean, it's your credit score that matters. We could have obtained a mortgage, on the house, to purchase the mh, but dh didn't want to do it.

but what I'm asking is:
would it be easier to get financing while owning a house or after selling it, the question being - how important is it to have a house to get financing?
While credit markets may change at anytime, currently financing a rig for FTing is no problem, with or without currently owning a home. If you go over to the Escapees Club web site, you can find a number of club associated lenders that find FTer as excellent credit risks even though they never know where their collateral might be.

Plan your finances very well. That coach can be very expensive and if you use all your money to buy it, then where will you live when you can no longer full time, and that coach has depreciated so much it is not worth enough to even put a deposit on a crappy apartment.

Why do you assume that everyone MUST go back to a S&B. Lots of folks just stop traveling but continue to live in their RV until they move into assisted living or pass on.

Barb

It is a reality that many people will face. Too frail to travel and handle an RV but still very much alive and not frail enough to be happy in assisted living. Apartments or other living accomodations for older folks becomes the only alternative. Sure you can just park the RV and live in it until you die, and from the looks of some I have seen, it looks like that is what some older people are doing..just waiting to die in an old worn out RV that hasn't moved in many years.

Another reality is that at some time some folks just want to live in bigger acomodations. It happened to me. I still travel but I also enjoy my sticks and bricks, too.

You just have to plan everything appropriately and consider the "what ifs". Just spending all your money and resources like there is no tomorrow is not being responsible. What will you do if you have to move out of the RV for whatever reason and you have spent all of your money?????

If I'm too frail to handle living in an RV, why do you think I'd be in a shape to live in an apartment or house? I didn't say drive, I said live. Once set up, what is there about an RV that is so much different from a small apartment? Draining the holding thanks and checking the batteries? When I can't do them, then I need assisted living. And one of the places I'd then consider is the Care Center in Livingston, TX. If you are every in the Livingston, TX area, go over and see the CARE facility at Rainbow's End. Not only can people live comfortably in their RV, that can have assisted living services in their RVs - complete with ramps to the door, assistance in checking and maintain the RV, 3 meals a day if you want in the Center, nurses and physical therapists during the day and Escapees volunteers to help you so that you can stay in your HOME. You need to broaden your horizons as to what is possible.

I'm with BarbaraOK on this one. What exactly is it that makes an apartment a better place to be than an RV? I think if you check on it, you'll find that for what it costs to live in your "old worn out rv" you can probably rent a run down tenament. So how exactly is it that you've improved your situation by trading your "run down rv" for a slum apartment

If you're going to live in a really nice apartment then why not spend the difference maintaining your RV and then it won't be run down.

As long as you can easily afford both payments it should not matter if you have a house or not. A permanent street address may avoid some additional questions and explanations. But an apartment or a friend's house address may work just as easy.

Well Miss Barbara, I am well aware of Escapees Care facility and do believe that it is an interesting concept. But I am well entitled to express my opinion and offer another thought to a very important topic that if not well thought out can have devastating life-changing consequences. Maybe you, Dear Madam, should broaden your horizons and recognize your answer is not the only correct answer.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. Did I say otherwise? I'm still trying to figure out how I could be to frail to live (not drive) in an RV but could live in an apartment with no assistance in the same condition? That's the question you haven't answered and you were the one who said an apartment was the ONLY alternative:
