Where is the best place to stay in Gatlinburg area. DW, myself and 19 yr. old daughter. Would like to see the sites and also some quiet time. Thanks in advance for the replies.

I would highly recommend River Plantation. It is actually in Sevierville, which is right beside Pigeon Forge. Others like Rivers Edge and I believe Twin Creek gets a lot of positive comments. There are a couple out toward the Townsend area, can't recall the names, but I am sure others will identify. If you do a forum search, you will have hours of reading. There are several forum members that live in that area, and when this question gets ask, they seem to lean toward River Plantation also.

We prefer to stay in Townsend, it's about 30 minutes away from Gatlinburg but only 10 minutes away from Cades Cove

Tremont Hills is the place, you can tube right at your site. Looks and feels like your in the mountains. I have plenty of pictures in my photo album

Smoky Bear campground is in the Cosby area. It is quiet and the owners are terrific. Those recommended in Seveirville can be difficult to get in and out of because of heavy traffic at all hours.

We stayed at Creekside and it was close enough but far enough away from PF to be quiet. We used the trolley service to get around and had alot of fun. Happy Trails

Only one great campground and that is Twin Creek RV Campground in Gatlinburg. There are others that I consider "will do". I don't personally like the Pigeon Forge area due to the heavy traffic and smog. Twin Creek is on the trolley route and has a large grocery store across the street. It is my favorite just like everyone else on this forum has their own preference. Good luck and Happy RVing!!!

Fully agree. Twin Creek in Gatlinberg gets my vote.

I have stayed at all of them and River Plantation and smokey bear are my two favorites. THey are the nice and have nice pullthroughs. I will give the nod to RP if you are in a bigger rig as it is easier to get in but not much.

I think it is best to choose by what area you plan to spend most of your time in. If you plan to be in Gatlinburg everyday, I wouldn't stay in Townsend, too far to drive everyday. Twin Creek in Gatlinburg is nice, but sites are close together. We don't care for their newer gravel area, seems a little rough out there. But if you plan to spend most of your time there, I would choose Twin Creek. If you plan to spend most of your time in Pigeon Forge, I would stay there. We have stayed at River Plantation (cement company woke us up every morning very early) and Clauboughs (we prefer, but some of their sites are close if you don't know which you are picking. We like the sites right across from the barn, no one on one side of you and nice green grass to look at. Traffic can be bad on weekends, so I would choose according to where I plan to spend most of my time.
