Yep. Gmail. I also have yahoo, but prefer gmail. Google has outlasted even several of the domains I have owned - plus, they forward for free and do the spambusting and backups for me. So I could put up another domain and still use gmail.

For $0.99 per month you can have you own domain email address. You can do pop3 or webmail without difficulty. Yo can create multiple email addresses. Check out http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Mail;jsessionid=593BEA5CBF362A040CB1B77A91AC1A6B.TC60a?__frame=_top&__lf=Static

We also use Yahoo email with a Verizon air card as backup when wifi isn't available. Your plan to only stay where wifi is available is easier said than done. The general availability of wifi has improved, but many places that "have wifi" haven't implemented it properly. On our last trip around North America in 2007, we noticed that most KOAs now have free wifi. And twice as many Canadian campgrounds had it as the previous year. So, it's getting better, but wifi availability still has a long way to go before it's 100%.

Ditto. Have used them for many years with great success. It's free and no matter how you hook up it's always there.

For the connecction, I use the sprint broadband card and I'm set anywhere I can pickup a signal.
It's a little spendy however it's far better than landlines or going through someone else for email/webspace.
Ditto - have had a website and email through the 1and1.com service for five years now and really love it. I do not get spam with the 1and1.com email address.
I use yahoo.com for when I buy things and for a few groups. I usually get between 100 and 250 spam messages every couple of days. But that one is free and it goes into the Bulk messages area anyway.
I too use a sprint broadband card which works great so far everywhere that we have gone. I have used wifi, but not for banking or other things that require security.
On Edit: I have found the 1and1.com is not too bad especially for hosting the website - $4.99 a month. If you just wanted something for an email or a small website, you could get it for as low as: $0.99 per month for email, and $3.99 per month for web hosting. I'd say that is pretty good.
