For a different perspective on the validity of NADA valuations take a look at this blog from RV Industry News, particularily the response from Lenny Sims and Mike Riley. As a guide for us to use to help establish baseline prices for RVs it is a great tool, just as it is for automobiles. With this knowledge we can approach dealers on our own with knowledge and confidence.

I haven't seen anything from JustCallMeJohn for a week or so. Was also wondering.

Add to the picture that the RV dealers, like car dealers, are using sales methods that are 40-50 years old, which is a real disgrace when you're dealing with a product costing a quarter mil. to start and could have 25-35K in add-ons... (for Class A's)

Yup... it was the same in the real estate market in the 90's. Realtors who would not learn to use the computer and get online with the MLS fell by the wayside. Most home shoppers start out now looking online before even stepping foot in a house.

I know when we wanted to look for a newer motorhome, the internet is where we started to search. And I would not be adverse to flying out to some dealer around the country if he had the rig in stock that I was looking for.

If I had to replace the rig I have now, I would look long and hard again for another mid-90's Safari product, and would not blink an eye at flying somewhere to get what I wanted if I found it online. Make the dealer pick me up at the nearest airport... and drive it back home?

Even my folks and inlaws, both well over the age of 70, used the internet to find their diesel rigs in the last two years. My folks were lucky to find a good dealer within 50 miles of their home that had the rig they wanted. But we searched the whole state of Florida for the type of rig they wanted. My inlaws drove over 150 miles to test-drive and purchase the one they wanted. AFTER finding it on line.

The problem with your middleman service was that you went to the dealer telling them that's what you were. Go to them as if you are the buyer, do the negotiation, then at the end of the deal, you step aside and the real buyer signs the papers. Dealer may balk, but I doubt they would walk away. Get everything in writing so the dealer can't change the deal on them. Check the laws in your state, but you may be able to even record any phone calls as long as one party (you) is aware.

I personally suck at negotiating and refuse to do it. I will pay whatever they are asking if I am ok with it. I would rather do that than haggle. I would gladly pay someone to do it for me. The wife is in charge of all negotiations and she will gladly tell you that if I negotiate we will pay MORE than they are asking, so I sit it out.
