We are looking at both of these I've owned Jaycos before (last was totaled last weekend by a tornado)so I am looking more for info on th e rockwood but if you own a 30u how do you like it? The dealer I am talking to will sell me a 2009 rockwood for the same price as a 2008 jayco. Also any options that are a must have? Thanks

When we were looking at buying our trailer in our opinion it was a toss up between the two. From what I here, you cannot go wrong with the Jayco. The only reason we did not buy the Jayco is that the local dealer had a bunch of Donkeys working there. However, we have thoroughly enjoyed our Rockwood. The only problem we have had with our Rockwood is the stupid Concertone unit. It has been replaced 2 times in the year or so that we have owned it. We felt the build quality was similar and the features were almmost the same. The one option I wish was available on our 2008 Rockwood was the electric awning. It comes on the 2009. I am not sure if Jayco had the electric awning on the 2008 models or not. I know they come with the 2009. Hope this helps.

Well lets see, both are similar construction, similar features, similar price, near identical layouts, nearly the same appliances, 2 year warranty, both can be had online at the large net' dealers........
Hmmmmm I would go with the one that has the decor' and overall "look" that you prefer.
If you get the Rockwood make the dealer give you the Forest River card for a extra 1 year warranty for $150.........

A good bit of "noise" on the Rockwood Owner's Forum about two items that you should be concerned with:
1) The ConcertCrap Systems - While mine has worked fine so far (I probably just jynxed it) most have been problematic.
2) There was recently a lengthy discussion about the inability to adjust the electric awning. Some folks are talking about taking it off and going back to a manual awning, others have tried a home modification. I'd be leary of the electric awning...

We had the same decision and decided on the Rockwood.
Things to note that we considered:
1. The Rockwood is higher off the ground than the Jayco. This was very important to me for pulling. We are in a hilly area and a long trailer that is low to the ground would be bad. I could invision that pretty little plastic bumper ripping off the Jayco.
2. Pricing for me was better on the Rockwood.
3. I liked the Rockwood dealer we were dealing with over the Jayco dealer.
Things that I do not like about my Rockwood:
1. Concertone piece of sh%! !!!!!!!! I will be replacing and rewiring the unit in the near future with something more standardized. Fortunately we have a no TV rule unless raining, so it has not been a huge problem YET.
2. I did not like the RVQ. I am a Weber fan and the RVQ just plain stunk in comparison. I have since purchased the Weber Q and changed the fittings so I can use the TT quick-coonect to the Weber.
3. The bouncing inside, but this is common on all the longer lightweights.
Other than those, I simply am in love with the TT.
Things I really enjoy about the Rockwood:
1. It tows like a dream.
2. The bunkhouse and the floorplan.
3. I prefer the manual awning!!!!
4. Heated Mattress.
5. Overall quality.
Hope this helps a little. I cannot point anything on the Jayco because I have never owned one. The two units you are comparing are very similar and you can pick them both apart with minor details all day. In the end make sure you actually step into both of them. I was all over the Jayco until I actually stepped into the 8317. Our decision was made after we physically stepped into the 8317SS.
Good Luck!!! Have fun shopping!!! Remember that they not selling well now so you have good leverage to purchase!!!

How about a different approach with new Rockwoods---tell the dealer you'll buy it if they replace the Concertone equipment BEFORE you take delivery! It's going to die anyway, so this might save a trip. It's worth a try.
We've been happy with our 2008 Rockwood so far (except Concertone). I'd personally take the one with the best features. I have no particular brand loyalty to either one--go with what suits you. Happy shopping!

We purchased our 8317 at the beginning of last summer from RVDirect - it was a 2008.
We have very much enjoyed this TT. We did need to caulk inside the shower as the water would drip underneath when using it. We also drilled small holes in the door track of the shower to allow water to drain back inside the tub as it was filling up with water. But since caulking, no more problems. So far the Concertone system has been working without any problems. The only strange thing is that when filling the fresh water tank, it will only fill 1/3 of the way and then start coming back out. It is the strangest thing. It appears that there is some sort of an air pocket being created? Haven't taken it in to be checked, but will do so after the summer.
This TT has a lot more storage than I initially thought. We were concerned that the cabinets above the sofa and dinette would be useless given their size but they are fine given the storage available elsewhere.
We did order ours with the table and chairs rather than the dinette and have been real happy with this set up. I think you will be happy with either the Rockwood or Jayco but wanted to let you know of our experience with the Rockwood. I remember being in your situation just last year - trying to decide between those two units.
