Enter the easily fixed or reliable beater that you buy used and cheap. My brother has been buying used Volvos, no turbos, and using them as daily drivers. I think at most he spent $4,000 which is the one his wife drives. His is an early 80's model he paid next to nothing for. It isn't going to win any concours awards or car show trphies, but he has made sure it is mechanically bulletproof and gets about 25mpg commuting.

the soccer mom false sense of security.....fact uv's the most dangerous things you can drive..a car will not roll 10x when turns to fast or brushed along a curb..so they drive something that puts us at danger as well as them.the 8000 lb suv takes twice as long to stop, the list goes on,

How many accidents are head on?? It also depends on what you hit. Tree, pole or wall all that weight makes the impact even harder. About the only thing you are safer hitting is a smaller vehicle or like sized vehicle. Then you can also debate stopping distance and manueverability issues as well. Most soccer moms have trouble parking fullsized SUVs so I don't see them making sudden maneuvers with all that much grace.

I own one of the best rated minivans out there, a Honda Odyssey. I'll put its rear seat space and comfort against that in a Suburban any time! That said, it IS still tight in either of those vehicles. And both are virtually indistinguishable from the space in the rear seat of an Outlook. The big (and shocking) difference is the cargo area BEHIND the third row. Shockingly enough, the Odyssey has the MOST of those three due to no rear differential allowing a very deep cargo area. The footprint of the Sub cargo is much bigger, but a couple FEET shallower. This means that much of the 'rated' Sub cargo area is above the seatback level where you won't be too happy having stuff falling on the passengers. The Outlook cargo space is similar to the Burbs, perhaps a hair smaller.
NO 8 passenger SUV or minivan has truly simple rear seat access. There isn't room. On any of them you need to fumble with one seat to make access to the rear. On that count, the 8 passenger Outlook is (IMO) actually the best of the bunch.

check the stats do suv's have crumple zones or do the passengers absorb all the impact?some do most don't..biggest killer!

hey,I drive a 8 mpg gas guzzling pig too...why? to tow a 12000 lb trailer.If I could tow it with a 4 cyl. toyota I would.I just cant see choosing to do so to pick up milk eggs and taxi kids around,just my opinion.Today they are making the big boys with federal regulated bumper hieghts which is good.

Oh so its ok when you tow with a gas guzzling pig then you must be a risk to everyone else.I drive what we have because it fits our need and last time i check we still have that freedom!
