I wonder which will become extinct first: the mini-van or the SUV? Lets see, GM and Ford have already left the mini-van market. Mini-van sales have plummeted at roughly the same rate as the full-sized PU. Any guesses?

What do you do when the truck stops better than the sedan? Doesn’t the new Tundra stop better than your Forester? At least dropping down to 55 mph in the Forester will probably give better mpg.
While trucks are falling out of favor these days, you do have to admit that they have come a LONG way since your 1990 Bronco. Not quite sure why you seem to constantly compare them to your Bronco.
If people want to save the roads, improve safety, reduce congestion, reduce emissions, and reduce fuel consumption, the modern (last decade plus) trucks and SUVs are not where you look. For max impact, look at the mass of 18-wheelers hauling one 53' box each across state lines. To fix it, we need a mass investment in railroads, not one in hybrid, ethanol, electric, biodiesel, or other forms of SEDANS.
Of course, the trucking industry isn't as much of a fun social justice target as the "rich, white, soccer mom, suburbanite" crowd. People need to spend more time worrying about themselves and less time worrying about others. You can't see a middle-aged woman in a truck or SUV at a school or a grocery store and pretend to have ANY clue how that vehicle is used or what their need for it is.

Just had my 1996 7.4L Suburban Calif SMOG tested...it passed, but a bit
higher than normally do (didn't change the engine oil, air filter,
tuneup, flush coolant, left in the 180*F stat instead of changing it
back to the 195*F stat, etc).
It usually passes with about half of what the HC & NO shows this time.
Still on the OEM O2's and the platinum plugs have about 30K miles on
them (cut back the ground electrode).
This is to show those who say SUV/PICKUPs pollute. Mine is cleaner than
most 'cars' says my mechanic. Not just a bit cleaner, but lots cleaner.
Just less MPG than most 'cars'...

And away we go with the people who use SUV's as SUV's were intended defending SUV owner's as a whole. Even those who use them as daily drivers and taxi's. Trust me. It is easy to tell what SUV's are used for towing and off roading and which are not. When was the last time you saw an Escalade or other high end SUV off roading on anything rougher than a lawn or maybe a dirt road? Also sneak a peek at the receiver. Most are rust free, no draw bar, or don't even have the pastic covering removed. Also most often these same people are the ones complaining most about the price of gas to boot. Not stereotypingif it is true.
I see no reason for it to be wrong no matter what a person does with their suv,if they can afford a Escalade then so what thats their choice for a vehicle its not hurting anybody just because they can afford it and the gas.So whats next trashing people that drive bmw or jaguars or is it jealousy because they have it and you dont.Live and let live were all different with views and needs.

And who gets to decide what is appropriate use of an SUV and what is not? You?
