I have macular degeneration, and see a retina specialist, every 6 months. On my last visit, he told me that I was eady for cataract removal. He does not do that operation, so I went to my primary eye doctor. After 2 hours of testing, he said that he would not do the operation. He said that since I was on Flomax, the risk was greater than th benefits.
Has anyone, out there, har cataracts removed, while on Flomax? If so, how did it go?
Should I seek another opinion, or accept my fate?

you don't control immigration!!!
The ads for FLowmax always say to tell your doctor that you are taking Flowmax if you plan on haveing Cataract surgery, but they don't specify if the surgery should be done or not. I would seek at least 2 more opinions and do some research on Flowmax to see why. There has to be a reason that the flowmax ads tell you this. I have BPH but do not use Flowmax so I can not offer any advice, you just have to trust the doctors judgement and maybe someone who has had the same experience will reply to your post. Let us know what you find out and good luck.

I see you are in central IL, are you reasonably close to a big teaching medical university that has a opthamology department?
You might want to schedule a visit with an opthamologist that also teaches and has a practice or one who specializes in high risk cases. They would be able to tell you what your options are as far as the side effects and surgery.
Gezzer has diabetes and he had his cataract surgery done by a teaching opthamologist, who gave him the best, most thorough exam Gezzer had ever had done.
Definitely get at least a couple of other opinions.
How long would you have to be off Flomax to not be a problem? I don't think the half life is that long, I think that the potency goes down when you repeatedly open the bottle. After seeing the ads, I plan on asking my eye doctor my next visit what the problem is.

Maybe consider the TUNA procedure. I'm on Flomax (not working very well) and trying to get off, so I had them do a TUNA 4 days ago. Won't know for about 3months if it really solves the problem, hope so.
TUNA is a radio frequency treatment that heats up the prostate so that a major part of it gradually dies and is absorbed by your body over a few months. They stick something a little smaller than a pencil up your penis (lots of fun) and treat 7 spots over a total time of about 14 minutes. Hurts like Hell for that 14 minutes, then they put a catheter in, then you go home, drive yourself if you have to, but better if your wife drives you. A very sleepless night the first night, take the catheter out the second day, feel pretty good after that first night. Your urination is worse than before for several days (I guess), but gradually gets better. Supposedly like a young man within 3 months. Almost no danger of impotence or incontinence.

Good luck.
you mean they don't do that under some type of sedative or anesthetic?
I woke up once during a cystoscopy and that was not a fun experience.

My doc had me take 3 little pills about an hour before, said they were "hard core" narcotics. Made me a little sleepy, but believe me, I "felt" every bit of the procedure. Can stand most anything for 14 minutes ,though.

I just had an appointment with my eye doctor. if I am a little "off" here, blame me not the Dr. but as best as I remember what he said, evidently Flomax makes the retina soft/jelly like or some such. some of these cataract removal operations in effect "suck out" tissue and if not careful can suck out some retinal tissue. He thought that if one was off of it for a week and if the Dr. was aware and took other measures that the operation could be done.
