DW and I are going to Canada this summer so we thought we would get our passports.
We went to the post office on Friday afternoon,June 6 and I found them in the mailbox this afternoon when I got home from work.
What a surprise. Everyone has tales about it taking forever. Looks like the backlog has cleared.

If it's listed in the Yellow Pages, the government shouldn't be messing around with it.

Ours only took about 3 weeks, got them about 4 mo. ago.
My feet are fine as long as they are traveling.

The backlog would probably be back in force again this year, except that many folks are putting off long travels due to fuel prices (including airfares), and that the US govt decided to postpone the passport requirement for those driving to/from Canada for another year or so. That's great that yours came back so quickly!

Great. Glad you got them so fast. State Department said they were going to solve the backlog and they did. Sometimes things do work out. I think you'll be pleased with how much easier border crossings are when you use them.
I just don't understand the reluctance of some to get a passport. Takes all kinds, I guess. I've been using a passport for travel for over 40 years. There is really no substitute although you can sometimes use other documents.

I was checking the status of mine on line: didn't receive it, didn't receive it, didn't receive it, and then mailed out! I think I had mine in under three weeks. I was renewing an expired passport--dunno if that makes a difference.

At least you people got yours ! I mailed my forms off to Texas where I was born and the paper work came back as they could not find any record that I was born there {a long time ago} The Court House had burned down. Texas said for more money they would do more searching. So far I have spent $138 to try to get the passport to no avail. I give up after a year of trying. Actually I save money as I cannot take the DW out side the USA where we used to go . What should I do now to get a passport? I could get a Lawyer and petition the Court etc

I suspect you are really trying to get a Birth certificate, not get a passport from Texas.
So you dont have an old Birth certificate around? You might have used it last when you got your driver license.
