In shipping, the flag of the country where the ship is registered is flown at the stern. When in another country's waters, the flag of the nation being visited is usually flown on a halyard to the mast as a courtesey. Not all nation's maritime flags are the same as the national flag - the UK being an example. The Merchant Flag, or 'Red Duster', has the Union Jack in the upper corner with the main part of the flag being red.

Now for the next question! Where can I get one of those flag holders, the one the OP showed a picture of? I have always wanted to fly the flag but don't have a lot of room for either a large flag or pole, that would solve the problem!

this is a great post. I remember some of the info from being in girl scouts, but there was some new, and it never hurts to have a refresher course. It amazes and saddens me to go to sports events and see so many people salute the flag. Summutt2002, your DW is lucky, my DH makes me walk 2 paces behind.LOL Have a happy fourth everyone out in RV land.

Other flag quickies.
1. The flag flown upside down is a symbol of distress.
2. The flag should never touch the ground.
3. To dispose of an old or tattered flag it must be burned.
The Texas flag is flown with the white facing up.

Speaking of Colorado, whatever you do don't get Rene Marie to sing the National Anthem, like what happened in Denver yesterday. It was a disgrace as far as I’m concerned.

I have heard many performers murder the national anthem at the start of a ball game or some such... I've also heard a few do it very well (it is not really all that easy a sing)
But I've heard quite a few who should be shot in my not so humble opinion
And ...... Well.. Let's just say I get invited to sing from time to time. (Alas never at the beginning of a ball game)
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

#3 of your flag quickies is correct, but, you don't just lite it up and burn it.
There are Flag Burning Ceremonies held at VFW and American Legion posts where they are disposed of with honor and reverance.

kennethwooster wrote: I have one of the flag poles that attaches on the rear ladder. The problem is having to climb up to get it up and down. I would like to figure a way to put a spot light on the flag at night. Does anybody have a good suggestion. The roof is rubber with no good place to attach a light. I'm trying to find a place to attach a small spot light with a magnet. Help if you have a good idea
I used to use a bicycle LED headlight. The clamp was just the right size for the pole. The batteries lasted all night but now I use a 12v landscaping flood light.
