So are you gonna make your own cabinetry or use old and just refinish it?

I think it is great that your rebuilding the old gal. we have become too much of a disposable society.

I sure hope that the appliances aren't part of the "budget"....that $300 will really take a chunk out of the "about a grand" you plan to spend on the rebuild!
Still, it looks like it's a pretty good unit, and you saved a bunch. I'm thinking that if I have to replace mine some day, I'm just going to go with a regular household electric. I've got solar panels, which would handle most of the load, while driving, with the genset or shore-power (we probably won't boondock much) when parked....so we should be OK.
It looks as if you've got quite a bit of work on the rear of the rig too.
We're all waiting with anticipation....keep those pictures coming!!

I think the fridge works pretty good. I threw a thermometer in it last night. With the knob set to 5 it's at 30* and the freezer says -8*.
I knew the fridge would be a sticky spot in the 'budget'. Yeah, we'll pass the 1k mark by a fair bit I'm sure.

Norbecke, I was hoping to use the old cabinets but the further I go I see I'll be remaking a lot of them too. I can't see having all new walls and crappy insides.

More demo today, an action shot even.

The wife came out and snuck that pic while I was pealing the outer layer of sheeting from the back wall.
And finally the back is cleaned off.

I got all the plywood off the roof and some of the cross boards. A couple more sections and I'll be done up there. Then I can focus on the floor edges.

Can's wait to see more, I admire your courage in this project.... At the point where you are would it not be better to just rip it all off and rebuild it the way you want? In most cases there will be some small changes that you would like or change in finish etc. These days the colours are getting lighter which makes everything feel bigger and larger windows etc that adds to the airy feeling. Going by your last post there is not much left in any case and you mentioned that cabinets would also need work or replacing.
In any case this is one thread that I am following with interest

While it may sound great to just start over from scratch....he is on a budget, and trying to keep this priced so that, even with the $100 price tag, he's not throwing money into a hole. There is also the siding to take into account...not much you can change there, with the windows already cut out. The changes to the cab-over will be do-able, because he'll be making it smaller, though only a little, but more aerodynamic.
Yes, lighter paneling would make it appear brigher & larger inside....but so would painting the paneling that is in there, and that way, he won't have to replace all...to make it match. It' guess it would be about impossible to match what is in there now!!
As I understand it, the plan is to rebuild and go camping....not resell. So, with that in mind, personal taste and expenses will outweigh the resale value of new equipment.
I'm sure "Our Hero" will be replacing what needs to be replaced....but the eye is on the checkbook....and wouldn't it be great to have a "like new" RV for under $5K.....and the way this one is going, it may be quite a bit under it!
The pictures are awesome....DW did a good job of catching you in action!!

Yeah, I'm kinda wishing I had passed on it. I'd rather be working on my boat! Oh well, it's still running for now.
The plan is to pretty much re-make it the way it was. We really liked the floor plan anyway. We are going to do something different in the living room area, but nothing that will require changing the window placement. The guy I got the fridge from is parting out a Dodge class C that I'm planning to get a few more things from before he hauls his away.
