I take no objection to someone refusing to lend out their camper, and agree that if you DO lend it out, it needs to be to someone you trust BIG TIME and you STILL need to think twice.
Now, for the other side of the argument, what better thing to park at the fireworks stand for a 24-hour guard and a restroom....sounds like the PERFECT solution, and what is the relationship between the camper owner and the group?
And it's not for us to judge how close the friends are nor how bold the request was- that subject is too complicated and has too many unknowns for a bunch of discussion-board strangers to solve!
Soon after I got my little travel trailer, a sweet young friend told me that their family of four might like to rent it for a week some time. I told them that it would not be necessary for them to rent it and suggested instead that I take their new party barge for a week while they took my trailer. The look on her face said it all. The thought of me trying to launch their new boat clearly put things in a different light.........'cause she knew I didn't know a thing about floating a boat. It was never mentioned again, and we are still very close. I don't think people realize what all is involved in managing the systems. I certainly didn't know before I got my trailer. I have offered to let my son use it IF he was willing to take the time to learn the systems. So far he has indicated that doesn't want to take a chance on something happening to it while he had it.

It was pretty simple...I said "ahhh...no".
And that was that. I would never lend it out...to even our best friends. We do not even allow anyone to stay in it besides us...because it is our home away from home...and it some one does not like it...buy one of their own.

Unfortunately, the answer would be no.
My dad would take our TT when I was a kid to my baseball doubleheaders....simply so he could get out of the sun because he would set the trailer up to block the sun and bring his ice tea in his own refrigerator and give him excuse to use th TT. Plus if had to go to the bathroom....or any other family member.
When parents would come up to use the bathroom, he would say its broken. We were never allowed to admit it was working. The password was...mommy or daddy can I have an orange soda.
I allowed neighbors to borrow my TT about 5 years ago. It cost me $300 in repairs for little things..but reparis none the less. It also bothered my wife a bit...and shes the one who approved it. Never again.
A TT is a fragile home. As is a TC, PUP and or Motorhome. Never lend them out. Unless you can handle the expense.

This has been an interesting post to me, because when I first got my 5er, I had a fence in my backyard that prohibited me from putting it back there and a neighbor and friend down the street allowed me to park it behind his house. Recently, he has hinted that he'd like to use it sometime. If he comes right out and asks me, I will have to tell him no. I will probably say, as the other poster said, "My insurance won't allow me to loan it." As for family coming to visit, I had rather pay their motel bill than let them stay in my camper.
"A TT is a fragile home"...........Well said, Sir Buffalo. Permission to use that phrase, please? There are just so many little mistakes that can be very costly to repair. I know because I made some of them before I learned.

I have no intention of ever lending out our TT. In fact I have full hookups where the TT is parked in our drive and if we ever had more guests (not too likely as we have a five bedroom house) and needed to use the TT I would have the guest stay in my room and I would stay in the TT. My oldest DD had a big party in May and suggested we bring the TT "for the kids to stay in". Kids my eye, they stayed in the house and DW and I stayed in the TT. We were more comfortable there anyway.
