DW has MS. One of the side effects of MS is a condition called "Foot Drop", which causes trouble for her while walking. This week, she went to a Orthodist, who is recommending an appliance that straps to her leg that will electrically stimulate the lower leg muscles to overcome the foot drop.

The appliance is called WalkAid. Anyone have experience with this unit, or know someone who does? I'm curious to find out if this thing really works as advertised, before we shell out $4,500 for it. Our Kaiser insurance does not cover the cost.

See the Walkaid here

Thanks.

Wouldn't you want to ask your orthopedist and neurosurgeon that question?

EPenney. By all means, ask your doctor! This sounds like a treatment device and probably requires a prescription. An ordinary foot drop brace is called a Klenzak Foot drop Brace, suspect it will require a prescription also.

Her PT tech at Kaiser, with the consent of her Neurologist, sent her to the Orthodist. We have already determined the cost of the WalkAide is not covered by Kaiser. She has a OTC foot brace for the foot drop, and was sent to the Orthodist by Kaiser to see if they could come up with a custom-fit foot brace (covered by the plan), or other means of helping her.

I am hoping someone has 1st or 2nd hand knowledge of the WalkAide device, who could share with me if the device really works.

Looks like there are a number of opinions voice on some other forums - per Google of Walkaid and Walkaide
