I am going to be in Glenwood Springs the first week of August. I am looking for some places close to town that I can boondock/primitive camp with a 24ft travel trailer for four nights. I want some place where I can unhitch the trailer and leave it during the day for side trips.
Cherry Creek is in The Denver Metro area....... a long way from Glenwood Springs. There are several state parks around Glenwood, but they are not that close to town either.

There are some nice forest service campgrounds near Redstone, which is 30 miles south of Glenwood Springs (about a 40 minute drive). The link below takes you to the Dow's Forest Service Campground link, which I find to be thorough and accurate.

Bogan Flats and Redstone Campgrounds both appear to accommodate your size rig. Avalanche CG appears to be on a road which may be subject to mudslides, and trailer travel is discouraged on the access road to that CG.
There are also some up the Roaring Fork River, near and beyond Reudi Reservoir, but a longer drive, 40 miles, and about 50 minutes. Little Mattie, Little Maud, Dearhamer and Mollie B all are near Reudi, with more further up the Roaring Fork Valley.

We use to hunt at McLure Pass which is very beautiful countries. There is also a National Forest campground there and all surrounding national forest land are free camping if you want to boondock, not to metion lots of excellent hiking and mountain biking trails. Have Fun.
We stayed at Chapman Dam Campground up above Aspen, it was beautiful, the sites were large and relatively private for a Forest Service campground. There is a replica of Hoover Dam there. Up above Chapman Dam are two small trout lakes. We saw one or two small motorhomes parked overnight there and I don't think there was any fee. I would guess these are up about 12,000 ft., not sure. I wish I could give you better directions, but don't know the name of the road we turned onto. It was gravel, but a good road. It was right before you got to Chapman Dam, so I think you could ask the host there and they would know what I am talking about, maybe someone on this forum could be of further help. My DH did lots of trout fishing and had great luck. We ate lots of trout! The campground in Redstone is really nice as well, not as secluded, but also not so far "off the beaten path". Beautiful country, wherever you land!
