Tower to give railroad buffs optimum view

If you're out travelling on I-80 this Summer or Fall.

That is awesome! Can't wait to go there. Love Omaha anyway. I shredded a trailer tire there a few years ago and was ecstatic to be told it would take 48 hours to get me out of town again. Haven't had so much fun being stranded in years, what with all the railroad and historic stuff there. This will make it even better!

Thanks for letting us know. Nice to hear from another ferroequinologist!

I plan to be in North Platte, NE later this year.....150 trains a day is a big draw. I read that a bridge was recently completed in North Platte to get across town without RR crossings to stop at.

Wow, and I thought 25~35 daily UP freight trains on our local subdivision was a lot.

Really cool. Wish they would have live streaming video also for those of us who can't get there from here. I too like trains, but not many where I live to watch. I've searched several times for streaming video of train yards but found nothing yet.

I've lived near a Union Pacific Mainline now for almost 25 years. Before that I lived near a Norfolk & Southern Mainline in Memphis, Tenn. for almost 6-years. I grew-up in Omaha, NE also near a Union Pacific Mainline. There are railroad beds in many states that I travel where trains run through them. Some are out in the middle of West Texas, and some are in the middle of nowhere in Kansas. I take the time to stop and have a rest stop when time permits.

Each mid-September North Platte, NE is host to an annual train lovers get together event for thousands.

Good for North Platte! Broke down some years ago when one of the belts went on the old 85 Suburban and took out all the others (Managed to jury rig the remanants of the much needed water pump belt back onto the pully with a pry bar, albiet the rubber was gone) got her fixed there, guys didn't have one of the belts we needed that night, but would have it in the morning. Didn't charge anything for that missing belt the next day or for the labor to put it on.

Met nothing but good folks there in the past. That and I'm a train junky. Grew up with the SP, SP & Rio Grande, and now the UP. Sadly wish the Milwaukee Road was still around.

The nice word for "rail buffs" is FOAMER.
Most of us railroaders call them FRN's

I slept at North Plate several times on my trips, but making Chicago to San Fransisco in 2 days never had time to check the city.
I guess next time I need to take extra day?
