Hey guy I have found an 2006 Ford F150 4X4 Super Crew Cap. It has the 5.4L with factor tow package. Does anyone have an pros or cons on this TV. We do not have a TT yet, but really looking, think more like this winter to due work. Not real sure of gear ratio but will find out in the morning and will post tomorrow night. I have 4 kids ages are from 2 to 9 so we are looking at the Quad Bunks House TT. This TV is sitting on a local lot and they have it listed for 16000.00 and the dealer is very reasonable when comes to down to it. Thanks in advance for the advise.

If I was just starting out looking for a tow vehicle, there is no way I would start in the half ton area. It will seriously limit your tt choices.

Can't help much without the gearing. Could be from 7000lbs to 9000lbs. 150s make great TVs, as long as you stay in the recommended weight limits. Good for most normal TTs.
The supercrew has lots of room front, and back. Also has a long enough WB for good sized TTs. As long as many 2500, and 250s.

As long as you dont change your mind and decide you want a fifth wheeler or a truck camper, the F150 truck will be fine for pulling travel trailers. The motor may be underpowered for the real big trailers but should handle most of the medium ones. Definitely find out what the gear ratio is. In a 4x4, changing the gears cost $1500 and could kill the 'good deal' you get on the truck.

A guy at work bought a 5.4L F150 to tow his (28' IIRC) trailer. He believed the salesman's pitch that the truck would handle up to a 9Klb trailer. It would but not very fast and not very often. After a couple of trips he upgraded to a Dodge 2500 diesel and is happier even though he had to eat it on the trade.
If you are looking at a small/light trailer, don't plan on towing any real distance or going over mountains the F150 would work ok. But with 4 kids (that will only get bigger) you are probably looking at a pretty good sized trailer and so you should get a truck that will handle one. Trucks are cheap now so getting what you need isn't as big a hit as it used to be a year ago. Ford is offering employee pricing again as well.

Great half ton truck. Chances are it's equipped with a 3.73 limited slip axle.
When shopping for that TV, look for a GVWR of 8000lbs or less and you'll be ok.
Happy shopping.

My F150 is a great truck. I tow 6800 loaded and have 0 issues. It depends on whether you will find a TT to math the trucks capabilities. If your looking for a large trailer then you might want to consider a 3/4 ton truck. If not the Ford should do just fine. Good luck!

I hear 4 kids and quad bunkhouse and immediately think Excursion or 3/4 ton Suburban. A 3/4-1 ton Dodge Megacab might also be good. Any 1/2 ton truck is pretty marginal on GVW with an 8k trailer before you try to put 6 people in the cab plus bikes, firewood, etc. in the back.

Look at some quad bunk trailers and see if the GVWR of the trailer is in your tow rating.
I hear lots about great prices on the larger trucks in good used condition and so I suggest a 350/3500 srw. You will probably need more than the F150 has to give.

Thanks for all the advise. I called about 10:00 am and they made a deal with someone when the doors open at 9:00. I guess that this was not the one for me. Once again thanks.
