We made reservations at Diamond Lake Oregon and it was necessary to cancel. We did so within the 72 hours required. I was not told that they charged a $10.00 cancellation fee. This place is a total Rip-off. The woman hung up on me when I called about it - Anyone else had this situation at this place???

Nope never used it... But my line of thought is if you used your visa and the disclosure about the cancellation fee is not plainly listed on the website or whatever you used to find the place I would call the credit card company and lodge a complaint... My bet is you get your 10 bucks back... Nothing ventured nothing gained... Plus I would tell the credit card company you called inquiring about the charge and they hung up on you....

With all due respect, RIGHT ON THEIR WEBSITE, it says:
"Cancellations are accepted up to ten days prior to arrival date with a $10.00 service fee.

Funny thing you mention this. I booked a camping spot in Oregon as well but it was at the sand dunes. I cancelled my spot about two months ago due to fuel costs and they boned me for a 10.00 fee as well.

You have to remember that these reservation outfits are concessionaires and as such for many of them that ten dollars is their profit margin as the rest of the fees are paid directly to the USFS or what ever agency actually owns the property. Complain all you want. That is the price we are paying for cutting back on the USFS/NPS and the rest of the federal agencies charged with protecting and managing our natural resources.

So let me get this straight. You book a reservation at an expensive restraunt, then some unforseen event occurs and you need to cancel.....Then you pay a cancellation fee and your ok with that?

If it's what they advertise, then yeah. Personally, I don't like it, so therefore, I'd never stay there.
Ya gots to take responsibility for your actions. Didn't read the fine print? Shame on you.

I know paying these crazy cancellation fees do not make anyone happy, but they seem to be a fact of life for most places these days. I have just come to accept the fact that if I make reservations and have to cancel, I will forfeit some money.
Personally, I think you got off easy, some of the companies that make reservations charge you the first nights rent.

It's $10 - is that really worth making a gigantic stink over? It is clearly conveyed on the website. And it's $10.......
