I just talked to the main office at Flordia State Parks and they said beginning July 1 2008 you can use Golf Carts in the state parks on the main roads .

That is bad news, the FSP is hellbent on destroying the best park system in the country.

That is unwelcome news. Perhaps it will not apply to all the parks - particularly the preserves.

I agree that this is bad news. Florida State Parks are supposed to be about getting back to nature. Heck you can't even pick up downed wood for your campfire because it disrupts the environment . Now they want to bring in more traffic and noise. What ever happened to riding a bike?

Why not everyone send an Email to Fl. State Park system and vent our displeasure of this idea. If we just sit on out butts and do nothing we deserve what we get.

Not what I wanted to hear either. IF they really are going to do this they need to have an age limit on the use of these and enforce it. Too many folks allow their small, barely can reach the pedals kids drive these. Of course they drive recklessly and with little regard to others on the road on foot, skate, bikes etc...

I'm at Topsail currently and the changes went into effect. We have been here two weeks, the period before July 1st and now after.

We are seeing carts showing up, kids driving them and have also heard that they plan on renting them next year.

You can see a thread I posted on some of the specifics happening here at the park...

So much for being a preserve...

This is very good news. Not everyone can walk for blocks or miles to get around a park. Older campers have been discriminated against for years. I agree that there should be a minimum age restriction in cart usage for safety reasons. If someone wants to let their kids use carts than they should camp at Peace River Campground where every 5 year old is driving one.

I also like the idea of this and I also agree you should be a license driver or at lest over the age of 16 to drive one in the parks.. Or like some areas they must have lights front and back and a horn to be ok to drive or maybe they could limit them to electric only to help the enviroment. If you follow the proper rules of the road it should be ok but I know thats asking a lot of some folks.
my 2 cents

I would be careful about this information. I have been given conflicting information about this before from park employees and I can find no mention of it in the Florida Online Park Guide.
