Hi all,
In regard to Winter 08/09 Florida, Texas, etc. Workamping ...
Just wondering if it's just me, or does there appear to be an increase in the number of CGs who are only offering a FHU site (no pay for hours worked)?
Perhaps it's early yet, so the "paying" jobs (what few there are) may not be available for sign-up yet.
Really hope we can work at a CG rather than work outside the CG ...just prefer campground work.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Cheers, and hope your Summer is off to a great start

We are seeing more and more jobs where it's 'work for a site' with little or no pay. We found that the jobs outside the CG are offering paying jobs while CG jobs are not.

I was offered free electric for two work days a month, then they offered a free month of rent for two weeks of work this month. They made a point that no money would exchange hands.

The biggest obstacle we see in working "outside" a CG is that we only have one car ...we would need to work the same hours at the same place. Frustrating to say the least.
Thank you for the responses so far.

We also saw in Florida when we were looking for a workamping job there, that must want you to work 12 to 15 hours each for the site. Had one place wanted us to pay for electric and would have to pay a storage fee for our truck too. Being it was to big for the site. Being we had never ever paid for our electric or a storage fee for the truck, we passed.
In Arizona and Texas. One place in Yuma, got a pay check, cable TV and free propane, others were just working for the site, electric, water and free cable TV. 10 hours each. One place in Texas we got 20 bucks a month for laundry. Even got it when we had our ow washer/dryer. Manager said use it to go out to eat some place.

The campground we are working at provides us with a full hookup site, including cable, and pays for all hours worked, nothing held back. We are seeing a lot of campgrounds that want you to pay them 10-15 hours each for the site, plus electric. Look around and see whats available where you want to spend some time. You may have to pay a little, but is it a place where you want to visit and it saves you from having to buy fuel. Sometimes its a trade off.

At present time I work 20 hrs per week for Fullhook up site E/W/S plus cable and Wi-Fi no other pay! Other plus, ok to wash Rv & Car at site. If I work over 20 hrs for the week still no pay for hours, must take time off!

Winter jobs, up until now have been scarce, so parks have had the upper hand. This year we will see how many people want to drive 1200-2500 miles at 5.00 per gallon for the right to work 15-30 hours a week for a site. Many parks had trouble getting staff for this summer, especially those charging workampers for the site.

We work at a campground where we were supposed to get a FHU for 20hrs per couple
We actually work anywhere 20 hrs plus each. Not a good deal. No deal for next year. We will finish year in August and just quietly leave and not burn any bidges. However, this has been our first workamping assignment and may just be our last.

It may not be less places offering pay, but more and more Workampers are grabbing up the paying jobs, which probably leaves a lot of campgrounds that are NOT offering money high & dry... Just a guess here, but that may explain why you are seeing more and more positions that do not offer any pay.
When the time comes that I'm ready to start workamping, I will only consider those that pay for all hours worked...plus a site.
