I stayed at Wind River Rv park Its in a not so good looking area of town but the park is spotless and the guy running is a retired navy officer, I believe. My daughter could not believe how clean the rest rooms were They charge 50 cent to use the shower I took 287 with my TT and had no problems. Not much out there and little or no cell service!

Just the usual road repairs. Check the sticky at the top of the forums for the links to the Wyoming DOT site.

Nothing wrong with that part of town. You will turn off the Hwy onto Park (between the Loaf & Jug station and the Pizza Hut) going East to the Wind River RV park.

Good 2 lane hwy with wide shoulders all the way except there will be some construction on Togwotee Pass. No problem tho, just relax, enjoy the views as you travel past the Wind River Mountains. Coming down the pass you will get a view of the Tetons like you can't believe. Have a great time.

Its a beautiful drive, take your time. Be aware that there is open range grazing on part of it and you may encounter cattle roaming across the highway. This was abt 6-7 years ago when we drove it from Dubois.

I was going to post the same question. I`m considering going farther north on I-25 to Casper then West on 20 to 26 and on in to Grand Teton. Would this be a better route or are they equal in quality. My biggest concern in grade and narrowness, but I can`t imagine getting around grade any way you go.

Mosseater,
Hwy. 20/26 to Riverton is boring but plenty wide and there are no steep grades. Hwy 26/287 from Riverton to the Tetons is an easy road in good weather -- not very steep and is plenty wide.

Dan,
I'm confused. 287 goes from Rawlins, Wy north until it intersects with 26 about 35 miles NW of Riverton, but Riverton isn't on 287. If you're talking about an overnight in Rawlins, there is a KOA there that's not bad. The campground is not level but the parking pads are. Its at exit 214 on I-80.

There's no reason to go to Casper unless you really want to. US20/26 out of there has a gentle climb for about a hundred or so miles. US287 out of Rawlins crosses the divide a couple of times in comparison. But none of roads are that narrow or dangerous.

Riverton is on 26 not 287. 287 joins up further west where it comes up from Lander. http://dot.state.wy.us/ click on travel information for road construction.
