I'm using a conference I have to attend at the Sheraton in mid July an 'excuse' to drive my RV to AK. I was wondering if there might be an RV park with hookups near enough to the hotel to make staying in the RV practical. If I can't find one I'll have to park the RV somewhere for the week and stay in the hotel.
I was kinda hoping to sort it out ahead of time, as I would feel better if I can get a CG reservation, assuming I find a place.
I would be infinitely grateful for any info you sourdoughs could provide.
The closest would be Ship Creek Landings RV Park. I've never stayed there and reviews are mixed. It is right on the edge of the Alaska Railroad yard so if train horns bother you, don't bother. Its about eh, a mile or so from the Sheraton--up a fairly big hill if you want to walk.
Otherwise, the other in Anchorage places have equally mixed reviews. I just stayed at the Eagle River State CG--no hookups, see post titled "Landfill Campground". A little further the other direction is the Bird Creek CG--also no hookups. Both are very nice.

Why worry about a campground, when you can urban boondock it? Stay at a Fred Meyer parking lot (the closest one is in midtown, less than 2 miles from the Sheraton). You can dump holding tanks and get fresh water periodically at many local gas stations (particularly the Holiday chain), and possibly even catch your dinner in Ship Creek (barely a mile from the Sheraton). Don't be a mere conventioneer, be a pirate! There is adequate street and lot parking for a rig your size near the Sheraton (which is on the edge of downtown).
Or, since we get ridiculously little darkness at that time of year, you could drive around and sightsee all night, and sleep during the conference!
Lots of visiting RVers stay in Fred Meyer lots (as we're pretty much turned all our campgrounds into shopping malls), all the locals use the dumps at the gas stations. You won't need shore power, since it's not warm enough to require an air conditioner (or dark enough to need many lights). As you've probably discovered, hotel rooms are ridiculously expensive during tourist season. And, yes, salmon do run up Ship Creek, which runs right next to downtown Anchorage.
Just bring some warm clothes, so that you can see the colors change in September, since you won't want to return home!

Hey, how did you know I... uh, oh nevermind....
Anyway I've kinda got a plan in mind for the hotel. My employer will pay the tab if I stay in the hotel, but I might be able to work out a deal where they give me, say half of what the hotel would cost if I stay in my RV. I don't know if they will go for it, but it's worth a try.
