Quote: We stayed in Jackson a couple of days last fall, then went to Coulter Bay in the Tetons for a few days, then to Grizzly. The Virginian is expensive, close to town and just a parking lot. Coulter Bay Campground is really nice, heavily wooded, lots of deer and bear, about a 25 mile drive to the South Yellowstone entrance and the same from Jackson. BTW, it's a pretty drive on both the East and West sides of the Snake River valley to jackson. Grizzly is very nice, clean, well laid out and just a few miles from the West Entrance. If renting, I'd probably opt for a few days in Jackson, see the town and shop one day, spend another day or two doing the Tetons, then tunr in the rental, move to Grizzly, and base there for Yellowstone. In Yellowstone, don't bother looking for bears or wolves...just look for the people on the side of the raod with the big spotting scopes. They already found them
This sounds like a plan also...so, when leaving Coulter Bay for Grizzly, I assume you go north and through Yellowstone itself by routes 191, 287, etc. If this is correct, how rv friendly are these roads for my 36ft. motorhome? If you have further information, just PM me and I'll give you my email addy for further discussion...thanks.

Just head north and keep going "westward". Old Faithful..Madison Junction...etc. Roads are fine...they arent any "4 lane" by no means...but LOTS bigger coahces ( and trucks) that you have dont have a bit of trouble

In actuality the Grizzly is only 3 BLOCKS from the "West Entrance"...and 14 miles from "Madison Junction" where many get the idea is the west entrance.
Its a pleasant drive in the early morning and before sunset...because of the animals moving. ( I wouldnt drive it AFTER dark though...you may "contact" a buffalo...

Question....is there any camping inside Yellowstone park itself? I'm thinking that after a visit in Jackson Hole with relatives....move up to coulter bay...then go north through the park before heading east towards Cody. Thing is...I'd like to stay over inside the park on the way through.
I've never been there, so it's hard to make a decision ahead of time.
Anyway, does this sound feasible rather than branching out with a rental car?
