After living here over 20 years, I have only had one incident. A couple car windows were broken last Fall at the gym around 6 a.m. in the morning. On this particular morning, a local nightclub was letting out and some of the kids hung out for a while. Insurance charged me 20 dollars and replaced the window same day.
But don't listen to me, read the U.S. State Department advisory called KNOW BEFORE YOU GO, written for Spring Breakers. It is very common sense, well-written and says very little in terms of negativity of Mexico. Pretty much plain truth about what to do and what not to do as a tourist traveling in Mexico. JMHO

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, we live near Flint and occasionally drive to Saginaw. Mexico should be a piece of cake after those 2 cities.
My wife loves foreign attmosphere and learning the language. After she experiances Mexico she will do fine. As long as there is A/C when it is hot. We will be in Cozumel in Dec on a cruise. Would like to take her over on the ferry and look at the RV parks. Are there taxis at the pier we could take? Dave and Patti

Now AC is something else. Only half or less of the parks we have stayed at could handle an AC. We take fans and run them 24/7. One of the reasons few people RV Mexico in the summer.

Good luck finding enough electric to run AC in a lot of the parks you will be in.
From Cozumel just catch the ferry over to the mainland as a foot passenger. When you get off the ferry at Playa del Carmen there will be lots of taxis waiting. Get Church's book before you go - I'm too lazy to get up and look in ours right now but as far as I recall the only trailer park close to Playa is Pa Mul but I could be wrong.

I cant report on Mainland Mexico, but we spent two months in Baja, and felt more safe than in many of the places we've traveled through in the States

Asking if Mexico is safe is like asking if the U.S. is safe.
It all depends an where you are and how you handle yourself.
Read Church's Mexico or Baja book about safe practices and places to stay. Learn a little of the language. Make sure you have proper insurance and paperwork. Have a great time!

There are no rv parks around play del carmen (Cozumel) and the cloest is Pau Maul which is usually very full and very crowded. Cancun has a RV park, though. It's too bad that more parks are not in that area, but real estate is so expensive that it does not pay to have a park there. If you do go, make sure you see all the ruins in the area. Awesome.
