Have a 2005 gmc 2500HD and put on Michelin LT 265/75/16 on 7" Alcoa rims. Tires are rated at 3480lbs load. When pulling a 5th wheel, GVWR of truck is at 9180lbs. Never had a problem with tire performance. By going to 265 notice an improvement in truck/5th wheel stability. Use tires for everday driving with little less mileage compared to 245.

My personal preference on the tire is any of the load range E Goodyears or BF Goodrichs. My wife's Suburban has Geolanders on it and I hate them. I keep saying when they wear out I am going to something different but they just don't wear.
What kind of difference in towing ? How about gas mileage
First off, there is NO BEST TIRE! Example, if you do a lot of street use in the desert or where this a little rain etc, a Michelin XPS rib will be best, If on the other hand, you do a lot of pulling in slimy conditions, the XPS rib is the LAST tire you want on your truck, and probably something like a BFG MT or equal. If in the middle, then an AT style tire. If like me, and you pull your trailer to a mtn pass, and use trailer as a ski hut at local ski area, then you want some thing AT to full on traction to get thru the snow, slush and ice.
Really, look at brands. Overall, folks with Coopers, Michelin, Toyo among others seem to praise those brands more than Good Year, Firestone and others too. Bridgestone is another depending upon tire style that gets pretty good reviews also. That is not to say the GY and Firestone do not have good tires, they do, but a bunch are lower end in many cases.
In the end, choose a size that works, tread design for YOUR style of driving, and do not listen to other folks opionions. For me, Cooper has served me very well for 20+ yrs, no blow ups etc, good bang for teh buck. Every other brand but Toyo that I have used, have had issues of some sort, Michelin by the way, is LAST on my list to buy! Excepting for the rear tractions on my dumptruck.
