I wonder if I could get a dealer to reduce the Airstream price down. Though, Airstream seems to have put a little more thought and process into their particular B-van.
Anyone seen one up close?
Went through both a white and a silver one. Amazingly clean and as stealthly as a 23'? van could be. Has a toned down limo look. Most sold at the dealership I visited had been sold already to people using it as mobile offices. Selling over $100K. Dual rear wheels. Small compressor fridge (so no exterior vent/grate, inverter, macerator, electric dump valves, lots more. Not much exterior storage if any. Storage behind the rear seat virtually nil. Lots of interior storage though. No solid surface countertop although that should be rectified soon. Seats 7 in seatbelts. Don't think any previous Interstate could do that. 2nd row of captains chairs don't come out easily. ditto for the rear seat. I think the ERA's rear sofa detaches as well as their two captains chairs. They do have solid surface countertops though. One of the ERA models is built on the very longers sprinter chassis; near 24 feet if I remember correctly. probably 11 inches longer than the interstate. but otherwise you can tell it's about $20k cheaper.
You can see a video Colonial Airstream made here.
This probably should be a new thread.

I like the way Colonial gives Airstream the credit for Mercedes engineering: The Interstate features Airstream's attention to engineering detail, including unibody chassis construction and a turbo-charged Mercedes diesel engine, resulting in greater fuel-efficiency. It's streamlined and comfortable. Reliable. Easy to park and easy to drive.
The conversion does have a lot of nice features though. The layout is very much like Roadtrek, Great West and others and is very open. It just doesn't work for our style of 3-6 week trips with 2 people even though the Great West was very attractive to us when we were looking.
Sorry for adding to the off topic chatter.

My understanding is that the ERA has a GVW of 8550 lbs.
It is interesting that Roadtrek, on their specifications page, indicates that their Adventurous has been "tested" to 9200 lbs. IMHO, notwithstanding their tests, it is still a MANUFACTURER 8550 lbs.
However, the new Airstream 3500 Sprinter - with dual rear wheels - is an 11,030 GVW. SUPERB!!!
To the best of my knowledge, ONLY Airstream and Xplorer are building a Sprinter with the original steel shell on a 3500 chassis. I quite like the new Airstream and am looking forward to being able to see one.
My wife and I plan to tow a single axle trailer that contains our Honda Goldwing (900 lbs) motorcycle and a few other bits, so, an 8550 GVW configuration won't do it, but the 11,030 version will.
The Airstream has shot to the top of our list!

Does anyone know if the above is true regarding the Xplorer on a 3500 chassis? The web site shows a 2004 / 2005 model Sprinter and the copywright date for the site is Copyright © 2005 Xplorer Motor Home) Does the Xplorer really exist?

Pleasure-Way is building the Plateau on the 3500 Series Sprinter chassis with dual rear wheels. I hear all the 2500 series are to heavy and leave no cargo carrying capacity.

Looks like Four winds is also hopping on the bandwagon with it's new Ventura Coach. Their website didn't offer much.
Does anyone have any info on it? I already don't like it cause it has that stupid striping so typical of the RV motorized units. Hate that design.
Here's the article.

When did they change to the 3500? Pleasureway's website is out of date.
