We are planning the last leg of our summer RV trip and we need to stay over just one night in or near Kalamazoo. We will be traveling west on I-94. We don't need anything fancy, just a place to pull-in around 5-9 p.m., sleep, get a shower in the morning for the family, and head out. No need for firerings, etc.

Thanks!

Fort Custer (State Park) Campground is 10 miles east of Kalamazoo. Very nice park with 219 sites. Exit 92 off I-94. North 4 miles to M-96, West 6 miles on M-96 to Park entrance.

Fort Custer is about all there is around Kalamazoo to be honest. And it's very nice and close to I-94 between Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. Will be easy to get into during the week but it does tend to get pretty full on the weekends during the summer.

All sites are electric and they have the newer "modern" state park shower buildings. Dump station available with water as well.

Thank you for the idea about Fort Custer which I just checked on. Unfortunately, the night we need to sleep is Saturday, July 12th which the park has a 2 night minimum stay. Any other ideas, along the way??? This is about the midpoint for us which is why we chose Kalamazoo. We are leaving Niagara Falls that morning and want to drive about 10 hours or so. Sunday morning we will be leaving for Minneapolis, Minnesota.

We don't need anything fantastic, just a shower (we would rather not even hook-up) and a place to sleep. We do however want safe and not a rest stop or something...

Thanks!

Sorry but I'm not familiar with any others. There are a couple county parks that have camping but I would definitely stay away from them. Once you get past Jackson there really isn't much in the way of camping all the way to the Indiana border that would be along I-94. Fort Custer and Warren Dunes SP (down by the border) would be it and you'll have a really tuff time getting into Warren Dunes on a weekend.

There is a Cracker Barrel out on 9th street you could overnight at, but no shower obviously.

About 30 miles north of Kalamazoo is Yankee Springs SP which is really nice but you might have the same issue with 2 night minimum.

There are some private parks a bit south of I-94 in Decater. They might be a bit on the high side though. Also may run into the same 2 night minimum.

Maybe just get a hotel for the night? There are lots of hotels in the Kalamazoo area.

Good luck!

There is a beautiful Kalamazoo County park called Cold Brook Park that is located just south of the I94 freeway about midway between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. It has elec/water hookups and a dump station. We stayed there last year. Very quiet and peaceful.

Woodall's lists about 5 places within 25 miles (smallest search option) of Kallamazoo.
Near K'zoo

You may need too free-register to view results (I'm not sure), but Woodall's is a good resource.

Fort Custer only has a 2 night minimum if you are making reservations. They " hold" a couple of sites for drive-ins or "emergency" sites for people traveling. the city of Otsego ( 15 miles north of I-94 and US 131 ) has a small park with hook-ups, but no dump. No fee. There are also several wal_marts in the area .

I posted above that I would stay away from the county parks like Cold Brook. Reason is because they are huge party places on weekends with lots of loud drunks. No rangers. Cops called out all the time. Last year the cops had to close the park/campground down a couple times due to fights and violence due to drinking and drugs.

Not saying you can't have a quiet time there but I'd say it's rare.
