Personally I like staying in the state park campground, it's cheap, they have electric, freshwater isn't too far and they have a dump station and free showers.

We're with you ! Hocking Hills is a GREAT state park cg.Two playgrounds,a swimming pool and access to Old Man's Cave, and close to Conkle's Hollow. We'll be there Sept.5,6.It is a very popular place, all times of the year.

I was at Happy Hills a couple of weeks ago - what would you like to know? It has campsites that are in the woods or in a meadow. Has campfire rings at most sites. They played a movie (I am Legend) on 1 night, I think it was Saturday. Has Wifi near the pavillion.

Since I don’t think gas prices are going to get any lower – I think we are going to go ahead and plan to do this trip next year. It will take us over 8 hours to get there so we will make this a week long trip and I need to have full hook ups. I can't find reviews on Happy Hills at the rvparkreviews website so I was just wondering how it compared to Scenic View - both look well maintained.

Also, this is the first time I've seen Hocking Hills mentioned anywhere outside of Ohio and if you check license plates in the parking lot there will only be at most 1 non-Ohio plate. That area is the best kept secret in Ohio. (And I'm not telling where it is.)

CountryLife,

I am originally from Ohio. Left there when I was 11. On a vacation one time I was driving from Columbus to Torch to visit family and "discovered" Old Man in the Cave State Park. It was in the spring and I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.

I've made that same drive in the fall and it is incredible.

I was just at Scenic View a couple weeks ago and camped on a premium site. YES IT'S WORTH THE MONEY. Owners were great. Highly recommend it.

Pammi, how large would you say most sites are? Can you reserve a specific site? We like large sites!! Are the FU patio sites nice? Which site did you stay at? Sorry for all the questions!!!

Oh, I almost forgot! Do you have any pictures???

I have not stayed at Scenic View so I can't really comment on how the two compare. The writeup on Happy Hills is under Nelsonville (pg 1008 in the 2008 TL directory). I use campgrounds as a place to spend the night and spend the day elsewhere sight seeing or whatever. But it provided more than I expected and I would go there again.

The fall is a nice time of year.

I was there too many years ago to count when the dogwoods were in bloom - I will never forget that.

I know it will vary from year to year but generally speaking - would it be ok to go later in the summer - I mean will there be any waterfalls to see - I know it's best to go in the spring or early summer but if August is the only time we could make it would it be worth a 8+ hour trip?
