We got a new Cougar 5er in March. The last several times I towed it, when I went inside, it smelled bad. Something like a rotten egg smell. I put the slides out and start camping in it, and it's fine. Put the slides back in and tow it and the smell comes back and it's strong. It's been sitting all day with the slides in and still smells, but not as bad.

Could it be the rubber roof on the slides? My Rockwood had a vinyl roof and never a smell. When camping, we never have any black or grey water smells. I always use a lot of water when dumping and always put several toilet fulls of fresh water after dumping. The seal on the toilet seems fine and the smell doesn't appear to be coming from it.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? We use the 5er for our rest stop when traveling and this smell must go.

Probably gray tank smell coming up through the drains when the water in the traps sloshes out. We had the same trouble in our motorhome. I got drain stoppers and the smell stopped. Now we use the geo method and we don't get any smell whether the stoppers are in or not.

I agree, we had the same problem. When the rig moves the water in the pea traps can move on down the drain so nothiing blocks the gas from coming through. Make sure all of your drains have a plug in them with a touch of water in the sink to ensure a good seal.

The rotten egg smell is usually from sulfer in the water..

I had a similar problem in the MH that came on suddenly. On the road the bathroom would smell awful. After we setup, everything would be fine. In my case, a rooftop vent was damaged, possibly a low branch caught it. The cap was loose and would flip up catching air while in motion. It tended to funnel the air in, pressurizing the waste tank and the smell entered the MH. I fixed the cap and all is happy once again. Worth a quick look up top.
