Perhaps one of the reasons Verizon cut the string is the current congressional and FCC debates currently going on over ETF's. Additionally, there are currently several consumer class action issues regarding the issue before the courts.

I am not sure how much that plays into the reason...
I have had Verizon for as long as I can remember, however the area my home base is in has not so good service, and I am less the 2 miles from one tower and under a 1 1/2 miles from another...
they know the service is bad but don't admit to the reason (territorial reasons and court decisions)...

they have let me out of my contract two times now at no cost...

I am able to get the credit for new phones now if I want... I will call and they will tell me to go get the phones and the contract then call and they will discontinue the contract... they have done this for me twice... they know I have no intention of switching, but I want the right to be able to...

they have always worked the best the seven months a year I am not here, and have worked with me while I am here... none of the other carriers work much better here either most not at all...

so while I am not totally satisfied, I still don't plan on switching...

I had several Motorola phones (digital) from Verizon and they all had problems with the charger plug. After a few months you had to wiggle it just so to get contact so it would charge. The last time I became eligible for a new phone they gave me (I think) a Samsung. No one could understand me. I went back to Verizon and they gave me a Razor at no charge. They even gave me a 12 V cord (also at no charge) since I had purchased the 12 V cord for the Samsung. The Razor has been everything I could expect. Not since the Motorola 9000 (the brick) have I had a phone this good. No problems with Verizon. And for $10.00 a month they put my truck on the account so my OnStar is cheap. Likewise my son in law and his wife. Both have phones on my account at $10.00 a month each. Works well. I'm happy.

I know most of the talk is about Verizon cell service. I have Verizon Online and the customer service is terrible. I had problems with DSL from Verizon. They kept telling me it was inside my house. After hanging up I went outside and disconnected the house. When I called back they again told me there was a lot of noise on the line and it was coming from my house. The silence was priceless when I told them the house was disconnected and I was was hooked up directly to their box.

Verizon is the Evil Empire!!!

At one time we had 5 (count 'em) accounts with Verizon. Two cell phones, local phone service, long distance phone service, and DSL. We have been Verizon free for 4 years and couldn't be happier.

Let me try a short synopsis... When I called to clear up a double billing error (charging the same $2 item twice on the bill), it generated an automatic disconnect of my DSL. (Found out later the double item on the bill was necessary for Verizon's internal systems to know I was a legacy GTE customer.)

Anyway DSL got disconnected a week later. I was **FOUR** hours on hold trying to resolve the problem before their phone system disconnected me as it determined I was calling 'after hours'. True, it was after hours, but my call started four hours before they closed.

Billing finally took responsibility for the problem. I asked to have my DSL re-connected (it was working 24 hours earlier). They could not. I had to wait **THREE WEEKS** for them to ship me new equipment.

It turns out I had an old legacy DSL box which they would not re-connect with. I guess an old legacy DSL box is also the sign of a "Long Term Customer", but they couldn't see that far beyond their own internal policies.

So yeah, I am a Verzion hater who will bash them every chance I get. We ended up moving outside of Verizon's area and are now with a different phone company.
