Got a good one for you all. Went down to begin negotiations on a new TT, Prowler 2702BS. Funny thing happened when we talked trade in value. Per the book, NADA I am assuming, the value of our unit was less than the 23ft TT with hard QB slide it replaced. In fact it was on par with the 23ft hybrid model. Our current TT was MSRP'd about $6,000 more than the one Gulfstream replaced. This price was not in line with the other Gulfbreeze models in the same length and content. In fact it was $4,000-$10,000 less. Now here come the real head scratcher. The 08 model, feature and structurally unchanged, was priced inline with the other similar lengths in the lineup with a fluctuation of perhaps $1,000 to $2000. It was priced well above the 23ft model.

I'm thinking error in the guide??? Even the salesman was puzzled when I had him check the 2008 prices and he saw the discrepancy. My wife and I flat out told him we were not trading our TT and going upside down on the loan. I also added there is no way our TT depreciated over $12,000 in 1.5yrs. At a minimum we trade it even up with what we owe. It is loaded with all the options and even a few extras. I know it isn't top of the line but the book was crazy.

FWIW per two different online RV pricing sites our TT would resell for $20,000 in fair condition and $24,000 in good condition. Our TT has no damage and no leaks and is clean. Pretty much detail it and put it on the lot. The value we think is an error would net the dealer a $10,000 profit if he sold it for the low end value. Keeping our fingers crossed that the dealership comes around and wants to make a sale. We didn't even discuss price yet. I am starting at asking 30% off MSRP and planning to settle around 22-25% off. We'll see.

Years ago I was negotiating to buy a new vehicle, and the sales man brought forth a Kelly Bluebook, showing me that I was getting a bargin, and that the vehicle I was interested last years model had already appreciated in value over what the list price paid was. I went to my credit union, borrowed their Blue Book and discovered that the dealer had a "fake" or cleverly altered "Blue Book" to validate his lie! So make sure to verify on line at KBB.com or NADA.com!

wait a sec. you want 30% off on the new one and retail book for your trade in?
I don't think so. perhaps what you want is excessive?

I am assuming you have a 2007, and I think I see what you are talking about. Here are the NADA figures from their website for some of the Gulf Breeze series...

(Low Retail, High Retail, Model, Length)

$14,510 - $17,480 - 28RBG, 28', 1 Slide
$11,040 - $13,300 - 29TRB, 29', 1 Slide (OP's Trailer)
$14,770 - $17,800 - 30TDS, 30', 1 Slide
$16,480 - $19,860 - 28TRS, 30', 1 Slide
$17,650 - $21,260 - 29BHS, 33', 1 Slide
$17,210 - $20,740 - 29FKS, 33', 1 Slide

These are just the standard equipment figures with no options selected. Doesn't seem to make much sense why the 29TRB is so much less than the others.

I am no banker but I believe that CU's/Banks etc. use a different KBB/NADA than the free version we have access to. I could be wrong though.....

No, not retail book. I want to not go upside down on the trade. I'd take even up at this point as I do not want to deal with privately selling a TT in this economy.Gulfstream upgraded us into this model from a 23TRS that we had already made close to a year of payments on. $1,500 was but towards the loan payoff as there was a non transferrable service agreement on the TRS. The 29TRB retailed new for around $26,000. We had the spec sheet with the MSRP when the TRB got delivered but cannot find it now of course. We did not even discuss price of the new unit yet. Things did not get that far as they are trying to figure out what the deal with the NADA price is and why it is so low. We also did make it know that we wanted some options installed (slide topper, Maxx Air vents) and would have them do it. The only "freebie" I want is a 1,200lb/12,000lb WD setup with dual cam or equivelent as my current 1,000lb/10,000lb would be borderline.

Here is a head scratcher for you! We had an 07 Keystone Passport 280BH, due to leaking we looked to trade it in (they already attempted to fix it three times) and there was NO value listed for any of the Passports. In fact there wasn't even a listing for Passport in the book. I know they just came out in 2007 but still there should be a value!

We ended up getting a 2009 so we are now up two years verse our original goal of an 08.

I know, there was no listings for the entire Gulfbreeze lineup for 06. Our 23TRS was an 06 per the dealer and registration. My first idea for the salesman was to check the previous years NADA values but they did not exist so we compared the 08 values to see if the trend was there.

I honestly think the NADA dealer value is very skewed in the dealers favor. You get told to not add any options as they are included in the wholesale price. Then how do you distinguish the base model with no AC, small tire and steel wheels, small propane tanks, no stereo and so on that costs $5,000-$10,000 more. Yet NADA offers selections for options. By their logic I should be paying stripped base price for my NEW loaded TT even though the options cost extra as I will get no added value by them being there. NADA will always value it as plywood with wheels and only that.

I'm curious as to why you are buying. Not being critical, just wondering.

"I want to not go upside down on the trade."

I can understand that but it really has nothing to do with the cost of the new one and value of your trade in. but it does seem that there must be an "issue" with your make/model/year???
