Just spent last week at Ocean Lakes with 2 grandkids. They love it.
Roads all paved. Can rent golf carts. Its in south Myrtle Beach.
Have been there twice this year.

In January stayed in North Myrtle at Myrtle travel travel Park. Also nice but roads not paved and no concrete sites. Depends if you want to
be on the North end or South end. 17 bypass makes it easier to get from one end to the other now.

Pirteland's sites are so small they don't allow open fires. The pools are only 4 ft deep. It's expensive and crowded. I'll never go back.

well i have to disagree , i just got back from MB ,, and yes i usally stay at OL ,, but this yr we tried pirateland ,, and it was way cheaper than OL and we rented a golf cart for 2 weeks ,, and also cheaper than OL ,, we had an ocean front spot ,, and i mean ocean front ,, step out and walk 10ft and u;r on the dunes of the beach ,, while we were there ,, there was maybe 4 rv's in our row ,, had the beach to ourselves ,,, did go by the lazy river and pool ,, but we go for the ocean ,, i have a pool at home ,, but i have already booked a 3 week vaction there in late august ,, and thinking about maybe late sept there also for another 3 weeks ,, love the beach and pirate land ,, but if u see my sig u can see why ,, also we rented chairs and an umbrella on the beach ,, and on the last day of our trip ,, tipped the life guard on the beach (which i have known for 10 yrs,, from camping in this area) a $100 dollar bill ,,,

We've stayed at Pirateland since '88 with our three children who are now on there own,and will be there again in two weeks with the two oldest kids and their spouses(our youngest daughter is in college and will be in summer classes)with our three grandchildren. We've seen Pirateland change with more amenities over the years.Loads of things to do for kids, they will not get bored.I don't think that you can go wrong at either c.g.

Pirateland! We have stayed at Ocean Lakes, Lakewood, Apache & Pirateland. Apahche is great for the fishing and we had a baby at the time so great shade from the pier. But definately watchout for the golf carts. Good pond for fishing there as well. Nice shade spots right in the middle is you aren't set on being right on the beach.

My 2 cents.. will never stay at Ocean Lakes again. Found it to be way over priced, access roads not suitable for big rigs. Security needs to learn a few things about big rigs. Was made to make a U turn and come in another open gate.
The 50.00 plus dollars a nite that we paid off season could well have been spent somewhere else and will be next time....

Easy to see that what some love, others don't.. I always just say "At least I am at Myrtle Beach". And I have a great time while there.
Can't wait till I can get back to Fat Jack's Wings again in Surfside,SC..

We'll be heading out for PL in the morning. We've stayed at OL and PL in the past and for me, at least, it really does matter between the two... the wife and kids though, love PL so thats where we go.

Both OL & PL have 'golf cart issues', at both we've seen underage drivers and just plain inconsiderate/reckless drivers... we just keep the kids close and our eyes open. We rent a GC when staying at either just becasue the GCs are so big, it makes it easier to get around. If I had to carry everything that the wife and kids 'need' - I would look like a sherpa getting ready to climb Everest.

We did a drive thru of Lake Wood and I wasn't all that impressed, not that it was bad, just nothing grabbed my attention. We also drove thru MB Travel Park... but it in all fairness, it was dark and we didn't get a good look at the place.

I'm going to check out MB and Huntington State Parks this around - with the ever rising price gas gas we're going to trim our vacations down somewhere.

We have stayed at all the big ones, except for Apachie. We have stayed at OL for the last number of years. You won't go wrong with either PL or OL. I do like the covered shelters on the ocean front sites and the lazy river at PL. My personal opinion, is that for overall ammenities, I think OL has them all covered, and enjoy our stays there.
