We are planning to rent our house this year. We have a park model in Florida, will stay there 7 months and would like to head up North for the summer and work in return for site rental.

Have any of u done this? If so what was your experience? Who should we contact to investigate the possibility?

All and any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Diane

We are workamping for our site at this very moment. Subscribe to workampernews.com and look for the ads that say site only and don't have a $ symbol. Campgrounds often require 20-25 hours for the site.

If you are only looking for a free site and don't need to be paid, you might want to look into volunteering at federal, state, or Corps of Engineer parks.

They generally require fewer hours of actual work and often no bathroom cleaning and provide full hookup sites.
We are on site five days a week but our job consists of answering questions, explaining rules and showing campers where their sites are. I spend maybe twenty minutes a day walking around picking up litter with a "picker upper".

In addition the site is not considered income and an equivalent value does not have to be declared as such on your tax forms.

We only work for our site, usually about 20 hrs a week. We belong to workamper.com but have found our jobs on our own. We figure out what area we want to be in, then look for county or state campgrounds first. We haven't worked for any private campgrounds but would not exclude them. I contact them via website or phone to ask for a position. We have found exactly what we are looking for with little effort.

We worked for our site and propane and had a lovely time! Wish it had been longer and will definitely do it again!

We do only volunteer positions where we receive an RV site and frequently a few other amenities in return for our time. We are presently with the Corps of Engineers at a lake in Texas. This is our 20th place to do this over the past 8+ years. We love this life and have had some really interesting experiences!

Don't know what part of the country you are looking for but if Northwest NC is a possibly you might want to check out The Great Outdoor RV Resort in Franklin, NC. You work for your site there and it is a great part of the country. The park has only been open for about 3 yrs. They have a seperate Park Model area as well still building a Class A lots for sale. The owners are great people and we came back for a second year. They will accept workampers for 3 month periods. Good luck in your search.

Be very careful on how much the Park wants in return for a spot. We use the formula of; hours required X min wage for state, Vs normal cost of site to the public. We have turned down jobs where the park would be effectively charging us 2X what the public would pay, for the same site, by requiring a high number of hours. Where we're at this summer is a good example of how it should work. Cost of site to the public, $350/mo plus electric, workamping requirements for site, 13 hours a week X $5.85 min wage, plus $40 electric allowance, comes out just about the same. Some campgrounds will try to take advantage of you, so use your head to stay ahead of them. There is one just 30 miles up the road, that rents their lots for $450/mo +/-, plus electric, but they expect 20 hours per person or 40 hours per RV per week to workamp for the site. Just be careful.
