Welcome!! I too have cats but haven't tried taking them. I have 4 and small MH so would try 1 first.

Thanks for the suggestions to get her/them used to travel. They go in the car to the vet so riding is not their favorite thing now.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a lock or something that would prevent a clever cat from popping open the screen door?

Thanks and good luck, Benn, with your travels.

Use a bungee cord-hook one end on the door, and the other on the entrance assist handle near the door. Just be sure it's under enough tension that the lil bugger can't pull it!

I have never been pop-up camping but am going for the first time in September. I am renting a pup and will be bringing one of my cats with me. I'm wondering if there's any chance he'd be able to "burrow" under the bunks (or anywhere else) and accidentally get out? The campers I've looked at all seem pretty secure but I thought I'd ask here and see what you all thought.

Thanks!

We too just throw our cats in the carriers and in the back seat of the crew cab (we have a fifth wheel). Once we're in the groove and on the highway we'll open the doors so they can roam. Callie and Jack (callico and black and white tabby) are just fine to stay in the carrier and sleep the trip away. Lula and Charles (Fat/Black and Fat/Orange Tabby) are off to the races. Charles will finally settle in as "Navigator" on the center console. He loves the trip from the time the trailer is in the driveway. As I pull in he's in the front window with the look of happiness. Then it's to the window, over to you, to the window, over to you....... Lula will howl for a little while and go into ADD mode. This is what we call the ying/yang effect because Charles has ADD at home - BIGTIME - but the trips are the only thing that focuses him. Odd how that works.

We agree to keep them in the carriers while setting up. Also to watch the slides, especially places they can get back into where you might not find them. We have one place on the bedroom slide, on each side of the bed, that we stuff pillows into so they dont get underneath. There are wires and mechanisms to get into.

But once we're settled in it's great to have them along. Here it was bird watching time for the two younger ones.

Here's a shot of everyone on family tv night.....notice I don't have a place to sit!

BTW ours are all rescues as well... We've had great luck with everyone. While we really want a Maine Coone (wife) and a Sphynx (myself) we have to go to petsmart to buy food and the darn things are right by the checkout!!!

We take are 24yr cat with us camping. My suggestion is to start off small. Put them in a car and go drive. Get them use to the motion. My cat would moew. She well do that for about 15 to 20 mins then she curls up on my lap and falls asleep. You should get us to it. After awhile they should calm down and most likely fall asleep. Try this might work. Then move them up to the big rig.

Wow, it's nice to know that we are not the only "crazy" people that take 4 cats along. They travel in their cages until we have the slide out and are set up then we let them have the run of the 5er. They go right to where their litter box and food are. My hubby installed slip type bolts on the inside and outside of screen door to prevent escapes...
