We had a Ford Fusion 4 cylinder automatic as a rental car last year. We got 32 mpg driving 70 mph, 4 people loaded down, AC on. Heck of a nice car, lots of room for 4 people, really solid. Ford did a good job on that car.

I have an 08 focus SE with 7,000 miles on it, getting up to 40 MPG. Average MPG 38-39 highway. This depends on driving style of course. City is anywhere from 30 - 32 MPG. Better MPG than the F250. Drive 48 miles 1 way each day to work. What a savings, it pays for the focus.
Now I need to find out what is wrong with my Mercury Milan (Fusion clone). I get 28-29 mpg in mixed hwy/city driving with more hwy than city and have never seen over 29 mpg running on the interstate at 70+. I have seen 31 at 55 but that was on the overhead and it is about 1 mpg optimistic. It is an automatic with the 4 cylinder.
I have a 2001 Ford Focus wagon(90,000+miles). It gets 25-30 depending on where. 25 if I'm running around town and back and forth to work. 30 or so if I go to my mom's in Fl. I can go from Metro Atlanta to West Central Florida and back on about 2.5 tanks. Have been from N. Metro Atl to Nashville on one tank. No problems with the vehicle. I'd buy another one if I could. Ford stopped producing the wagon in 06. Will probably buy a regular 4 door Focus when it's time to trade.

Once again, Focus,a 4 door 4/5 passenger sedan, with a trunk. CRX 2 door 2 seat, no trunk. No comparison.
I can and will compare them if I wish to. And, if I wish to compare the mileage between a 1/2-ton and a one-ton dually, I will do that too. Why? Because I can!

Of course you can. But why would you It serves no purpose. You can also compare the milage between a moped and a Bus. But what good would it do? they are not in the same catagory.

Sure they are... You wouldn't want a new girlfriend to see you riding either of those.

On a strictly flat highway drive, the car has returned as high as 37 mpg. I would think Focus numbers should be similar but that's JMHO.
I just wanted to add, that the trip to Memphis in our Neon was trunk full of luggage, A/C on, and the trip home had 5 people on board! Yes it was a little snug in the back seat, but 2 of them were our kids. Although the bulky booster seats took up a lot of room. Oh well, it was just my MIL sitting between them.
An unexpected change of plans required us to have 5 for the trip home. It wasn't ideal, but we managed and the car performed flawlessly as usual.
Anyway, I was pleased with the 34 mpg trip average, especially considering about 50 miles of the trip was stop and go traffic. I think the Focus numbers for the manual transmissions around 35 to 38 mpg highway are very likely. That's what our Neon 5 speed does empty on the highway.
