My son had an accident the past weekend - luckily he walked away with scrapes and bruises but it could have been much worse.

He was in the back bunk and rolled out - forcing the velcro to separate - and fell out of the back bunk...landing in a tangle of bicycle and scooter.

This put DW into a state of distress and upon returning from our trip we unpacked and went right to the RV dealer. Our Cabana hybrid has been traded in and we've gone to a Prowler. Our Cabana treated us great for a season and half but we didn't want to risk a more catastrophic fall. We're moving onto the world without canvas.

This hazard has been raised before and your bad experience serves as a reminder. Our kids are past the age (I hope) to fall like this, but I checked the design on my HTT regarding the way the canvas attaches to the bottom of the bunk bed. The four bunge cords that are there to close the sides are barely enough to provide a totally secure seal.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Glad they were okay!

We have at least 8 bungees on our bunk ends and the kids can't fall through there. We have a KZ Coyote HTT

Our friends had the velcro closure and I was always worried about their kids falling through.

My son fell out of our front bunk when he was two - fell right onto the hitch... ouch...! He was ok, but ever since then, we've put extra bungees on and take the rectangle cushions from the dinnette and put them around their bunk end... just to make extra safe...

Our ends snap on and sometimes are very hard to undo. Sorry to hear about your son and about you going to the dark side, good luck and have fun with your new trailer.

Ouch! Glad to hear that your son is ok!

Our HTT has both snaps and velcro...which I hope is enough for something like that never to happen. But it gets a person thinking about it...

Good luck with your new TT.

Sorry to hear that. Keep in mind that if your new TT has bunks the same thing can happen just as easily inside. My 5 year old fell from the lower bunk in our TT and broke her collar bone on the 2nd trip out this season. Now we stack pillows and blankets under the bunks on the floor.

We had that happen a few weeks ago with a couple who had 2 kids. The boy (6 years old) fell from the top bunk and hit his mouth on the bottom bunks wood trim. A broken tooth, cut tongue and split lip, bruised knee and a black eye later he was ok. They had to have emergency services to stop some of the blood.

This can happen in any camper with bunks and a place to fall. Heck my youngest took the plunge out the front door to the dirt last season.
