Not as bad for us this year, as temps have been a lot cooler - a lot less run-off and lower water levels in the rivers. Last spring, we had some high temps and there was a lot of early run-off and lots of flooding. There was A LOT of breeding going on last June!

Our 1st time in AK, but except for 1 night enroute to Fort Liard, I don't believe they are really that much worse (so far) than what I deal with at home in NH!And I am NOT complaining!!!! 8^) ST

Have been in Ninlichik from the beginning of the month and have seen 3 mosquitos here the entire time. the breeze off the inlet keeps them down, but it also keeps the temperature down. Hasn't gotten past 60 since we are here. Right now it's 54 degrees at 5 pm.

We are since 14 days between Homer and Soldotna here. Have not seen any mosquitos here, no miracles, are all frozen. Most between 46 - 56 degrees...

Yes, and there not just a nuisance. We also have the West Nile Virus to contend with. And due to the WNV, I hear that the areas 'sprayed' will be more extensive this year. With WNV I guess the 'spraying of chemicals' is the lesser of the evils.

We don't spray. I have a mosquito magnet. Worth every penny. I think everyone should get one.
That said, coastal areas are nice. When the breeze is up you hardly see them. In the inland areas, or in the trees, you see a bunch of them. Camp out in the open. Stay away from the wooded ares and it shouldn't be too bad in the Anchorage area. Now, Fairbanks..... All bets are off. They're tough up there.
