I think the eco mode "ON" in the Honda ramps down the engine to provide only the amperage needed which is exactly what the Yamaha "smart throttle" does full time. The eco mode on the Honda can be turned "OFF" if needed.

The Honda Eco-Throttle switch enables you to ramp-up the rpm prior to applying a load (like an A/C unit). The Yamaha waits for the load to be applied then increases rpm. During that lull the output voltage can be reduced below acceptable level. Your choice.

My Yamaha 2400 takes care of this automatically with no over-ride switch.
My Yamaha 3000 does the same thing but it has an over-ride switch that allows me to turn-off the Smart Throttle feature and run the genny at full RPM's.
