Yes, you can laugh. It is funny what advertisers will do to sell a product. The sad part is all the people that believe the ads.
When I was younger (and dumber) I had a Chevy Suburban and I saw all these ads on television with Suburbans pulling really big trailers. So I naturally thought that my Sub would pull this new Travel Trailer that I bought. ( this story ends the same way they all do).
I am wiser now.

I keep hearing a toyota tundra commercial that boasts an oversized set of brakes. I'm guessing they mean oversized from what the tundra brakes used to be because they are no bigger than any other 1/2 ton's brakes.

I actually had a guy at work try to tell me that his "oversized brakes" on his tundra were as big as the brakes on my Chevy 3500 dually. They are no where near the same size and he was very disappointed when he actually saw the difference.

I would hate to see what the brakes used to look like on the tundra if the new ones are considered oversized. The thing that amazes me is people fall for this crap.

My dad-n-law tows a 5000# TT with his Tundra and we just got back from the beach.I tow a 8000# TT with my dodge and I used less fuel than he used.He keeps saying too that his 'toy' will out tow me thru the mountains. We go in a few weeks and are going up the saluda grade on I-26 and on into cherokee thru maggie valley. We will see how the 'toy' preforms...

I don't know too much about Toyota trucks but I have seen the commercial(s) you are talking about. When that Toyota passes my Chevy 3500 DRW 4x4 DA towing my Travel Supreme with the same FW I'll be a believer. Until then " Caveat Emptor".

I'm disappointed that TOyota continuously encourages buyers to totally ignore payload and GVWR. Sure it may be able to pull 11,000 pounds (almost). But the commercial towing the log-cabin park trailer... come on... that thing easily has over 2,000 pounds of tongue weight.

I'm sure the Toyota is a great little truck, however it battles the new Chevrolet for the ugliest truck on the road.

All the manufacturers stretch the truth, that is called advertising. While the Tundra may not be a monster truck, I think it is turning out to be a very well built, powerful, comfortable truck that meets the needs of 99.9% of pickup owners. I got to stop by the Toyota dealer today to pick up a part for the Matrix so I will ask the service writer about the Tundras transmissionn problems, he will know, they sell a lot of the trucks. First time I heard of the issue.
Of course my great Ford is suppose to be a flame thrower and I seemed to have missed that, too.
I didn't hear about these troubles, either, until the last time I stopped by the dealership with my GMC truck...they are Toyota/GMC/Pontiac/Buick dealers. The service writter had about 4 of them in there and said they were all tranny trouble trucks with people trying to pull what the ads claimed, from heavy horse trailers to pretty large TTs. Could just be that these rednecks think they can overdo them and not a real issue, but it's interesting, to say the least.

Go ahead and tow a train with your GMC and let's see how well the tranny does!! This thread is going nowhere....make it interesting...everybody knows ALL mfg commercials stretch the truth..

I don't care what they have for commercials. They are still ugly and they ruined the entire last season of "24" by advertising them in the show (like some super secret counter-terrrist agency is going to have a fleet of them for their company car) Then the camera pans around it like it is a work of art when actually, it sort of made me puke in my mouth

I PROMISE to everyone here, when I get the time, I will drive up to to Toyota of Bellevue, with my video camera and ask them to have a "tug-of-war" with my Cummins, then when they say that it isn't fair, I will ask to do it with my Mada and I bet they don't. It is only 20 miles away.
