What gas mileage are you getting on your GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado driving normally, and towing? I know they aren't as bad as some trucks out there, and I want to compare mine with others to see if i'm doing things right with my mods.

My 2004 Sierra, 5.3L V8, auto, 3.73 rear end Z71 extended cab, with 235/70/16 all terrain tires gets fair, considering, so far. At 70mph interstate driving, it gets average of 17mpg and at 60mph gets average of 21.2mpg. This is not many hills and straight shot, little stop and go traffic.

Towing my 6000# or so TT, at 70mph, it gets an average of 11mpg while at 60mph it gets an average of 8mpg on normal driving highways. At 70, it will go into overdrive, but not at 60, so that could be the small difference. Otherwise, it's pretty consistant with these numbers.

What about yours?

We'll even let you Ford and Dodge owners post your numbers, too, just so we can gloat...lol....j/k

Our 05 Sierra, 5.3, Z-71 with 87K on the clock has averaged 16mpg over that 87K. That includes towing our car hauler, with the 56 Plymouth on it, to car shows.

P.S. If your trying to add "help" to your mpg, maybe add a tonneau cover if you don't have one already...can't hurt....we put one on our truck right after we bought it for extra cover, but maybe it's helping our mileage (I'm a positive thinker, can you tell?)
BTW, DH says he thinks we are actually getting 11-12 towing the TT.
Great post...I've been wondering myself how others with the same truck are faring with fuel mileage.

My 03 GMC Sierra ex cab with 3:42 was getting 17 around town 21 @65 Hwy and 8-10 towing about 6500 lbs. But hills and headwinds slowed me down. Just changed to 4:10 gears and I am getting 16.5 around town and have not towed yet, but I will next week.
