Good advice - a friend was robbed at gun point while standing at the urinal at a rest stop on I85 in NC a few years back. They took his wallet and keys, then drove off in his Land Cruiser.

Didn't they both have a "gun" in hand at the moment? Sorry for the mishap but I couldn't resist the chance. I'm always leery of my surroundings. Good practice for all. Never trust anyone when you are around a bunch of strangers. That doesn't mean to be paranoid, but keep your eyes moving.

The OP copies an article that they think might be helpful to some of us and gets flamed and insulted! What's up with that? You people get up on the wrong side of bed today?

Yep, you're right. It's a sad commentary that there isn't ANYTHING that you can post that will be safe from some people's snide remarks. If you say it's a beautiful day, someone out there will say you're nuts because it's raining someplace!

All the examples seem to be people that came to the rest stop to commit a crime against another previously known person. None of the examples are about criminals praying on some random tourist stopping for a rest.

This is news?! Rest stops attract truckers, truckers have always been willing to buy certain 'services' and products. Thus people willing to provide those services and products will be found at rest areas. LOL.

The cops here have been arresting professional women at the rest stop outside Gainesville for decades and I'm sure that the problem is not isolated to Florida.

You missed my post because I had never seen the spanish speakiing person before. I was alone, at the far end of the stopping area when the PU pulled in and blocked me. When the guy in the PU started looking under the seats I showed my .45 and went for the shotgun. When I got back to the front they were gone!
Also, what about the person that was robbed while at the urinal, nowhere does it say they knew the assailants!

"IF YOU CAN READ THIS, YOU'RE IN RANGE"

I always hang this sign outside my door when I stop and go inside the coach. It probably won't stop a 'desparate' criminal-type, but it may make most others think twice before breaking my door in....
Enjoying the journey...

I have a large dog (big baby of a Lab, but punks don't know that) and keep her huge dishes outside the RV, seems like almost everyone is leery of a big dog. Also have a recording of the meanest/nastiest dog growling you ever want to hear - just turn it on if someone's outside the RV at night. Final backup is a .357 magnum with laser sights (legally carried). I'm not about to let the scum keep me from traveling and enjoying this beautiful country of ours. Enjoy.
