Hello all.

I have friend that is looking at Class C. The GVWR is 14,500 with a dry curb wieght of approx 12,200. This only gives him 2300 pounds to work with. Is this the norm on class C motor homes or should he be looking for something a bit better?

Thanks for the replies in advance.

Carry very little water and fewer than the rated # of people and you can stretch things somewhat. Even so, I've got space I can't use because of the weight limit. Heck, I'd be happy just to have the extra 450 #s that the newer chasis have.

I have a Class A and have about 3400lbs capacity. But i have not done any research on the Class C. So from what your saying is that 2200lbs is the norm for a class C's storage capacity?

I full-time in a 08 Jayco Melbourne I have weight it atleast 10 times. Load with everything, wife, dog, Hydro Jacks, Air bags, food and to many clothes it weight 14200 with 30 gals gas 20 gals of water. I had some warranty work this last week and I took everything out except dry food goods and cooking stuff. It weight 13200.
I would not worry to much about only having 2000 listed, load it up and get it weight. I normal travel with only 10 gals of water. I hope this helps.

PineKap - To answer your question, I would say you would be much better than most Class C's with 2,300 lbs to work with. Many Class C's are 29 or 31 foot units with multiple slides and do not have nearly that capacity.

If you are looking for more capacity, think shorter.

I am not looking to buy. I am asking for a friend of mine who is looking to buy a Class C. We are just wondering if 2200lbs is the norm Storage capacity or should he he be looking for a Class C that has more capacity. BTW he is looking in the 30' Range.

Thanks

30' with no slides maybe, look for shorter if you have that much to carry. I don't hear many folks bragging about how much weight they carry You would have to check each of the brands out I don't know of any

My 31' Minnie weighs 13220 fully loaded with fuel, lpg, 1/2 tank water, 2 bikes, fishing gear etc all supplies for a week, 2 schnauzers, DW and myself. The MH has one slide and HWH levelers, so I don't see the problem preceived about a MH of this size having no carrying capacity. There's nothing else I would want to take and I'm still 1200 lbs under capacity.
