We are headed up in September, has anyone stayed here? We are trying to decide if it's worth while to haul the 5er or take the gas sipper and stay in a cabin.
Any info on the Park would be great.
Thanks!!

We really like Lake Erie State Park... just south of Dunkirk, NY. In fact, we make it a point to stop there on our way back and forth from Niagara/Canada trips. Once we went up for the weekend just because. Mostly it is located on a high bluff looking west over Lake Erie. Several of the sites back right up to this bluff, while many are more "inland".
There can be storms that blow in from the lake and can be rather intense.
Been a while, but the local restaurants had a fish fry, there are wineries around, but mostly, there is peace.

We were at Lake Erie SP in the fall of '06. We were there a week or two before the park closed for the season. Us southerners are not used to that, the place was almost empty. We checked out the cabins. They are rustic and right on the lake shore. Unfortunately I didn't make any pictures of the cabins. We do have several pictures of the campground - click on this link to go to Our Dotphoto Site. And here is where I wrote about that segment of our New England Trip including the stop at Lake Erie SP. New England Trip Report The pictures you see of the sunsets were taken right in front of one of the cabins.
All in all, it was a very nice, large campground with well spaced sites. If I remember correctly, we did not have water at our site. Some of the sites could reach a water spigot, but they were just scattered around the campground. Take a tank full or a long hose. There is a large beach area and trails.
Another thing, be sure to watch for the low bridge clearances in that area. I was about ready to follow the signs directing us from Hwy 20 in Brocton to the state park. I was already in the left turn lane when fortunately, I noticed a low clearance sign a few yards down the street onto which I was about to turn. We ended up staying on Hwy 20 east bound to the next town and then over to Hwy 5 and back west to the park.
