I am going to Taylor State Park, Colorado, next week for four nights. Never drove through Cottonwood Pass before but a quick search in this wonderful forum indicated that getting to Taylor over the pass is doable, even for bigger RVs. I will be pulling a 33 ft 5'er. Just wondering if any has recently drove over the Cottonwood Pass route to the park. If so, what are the road conditions like and is towing a 33 ft 5'er doable? Grateful for any info.

They just got Cottonwood opened a week or so ago, had a little over 13' snow depth up there with a nasty cornice near the summit on the Chaffee County side.

It's been fairly warm here the last few days so some has melted off, but might be some avalanche danger still..

You might want to check Chaffee Sheriff before you travel next week.

Safe Journey!

Knowing that the west side isn't paved, and usually prone to some potholes until it is graded..... I wouldn't take it this early in the season.

BTW..... Taylor Reservoir is not a state park.

Not as much of an adventure, but a LOT easier to just take Monarch and head North from Gunnison to the park.

We brought our 32' 5th wheel Toy Hauler fully loaded over Cottonwod Pass the 15th of this month, the road was in great shape, really a time saver if you're headed to Colorado Springs area. The road from Taylor Res North is a real bummer, we camped 13mi North, took an hour and forty minutes, plus all the mud but what a place to camp!

Happy trails
