I just recently installed a Dual Cam upgrade (non HP) to my Reese WD hitch which just had the friction bar originally. After installation I left the U-bolts slightly loose and pulled straight forward about 100 ft. and when the Cams were sitting even on the knuckles then I tightened the U-bolts. I have had to a couple of times loosen the U-bolts on one side or the other because they get about 1/4 inch or so out of alighnment. When I loosen them they slide into place. I am going to have to move the chain hooks to keep the chains in a vertical position. Is this normal to have to make a few adjustments after the initial installation? We are about to head out for New Braunfels, TX Sunday and want to make sure I am headed in the right direcion with the hitch.
I think this is normal. When I installed mine I had to adjust once as I found that it wasn't quite right. After that I've not had to touch them. As far as the chains are concerned they don't have to be perfectly straight. Close is close enough. You won't be sorry for the installation, I know I wasn't.
I was advised when I picked up my TT that I would have to re-adjust the Dual Cams once I got the trailer loaded for traveling. I have made one re-adjustment when taking a trip with a bit of a load, but will make a further one next week before we head out for longer trip. I consider re-adjusting normal.
