I skip the filter change (the messy part of the job)thus leaving one quart of dirty oil to be diluted by five clean quarts. Because I am changing at 3,000 miles I don't feel much harm is being done.

The filter is where all the dirt is. It wont take many oil changes and the oil filter will get restrictive and the oil will just bypass the filter element.

What's a new V-10 cost? $8-10K?

I am the only one that does all mine, never have used anyone else and don't plan on ever using anyone else especially one of the quick jerk places. That is asking for problems and rape.

TVman44, like I said earlier, I've NEVER had a problem. I realize there are some of the "quick jerk places," as you call them, that have ripped off the public. There are more of them who haven't. I am happy with the work they've done. Since you've never used them, you have nothing to compare it to.

My local mechanic is the only one who I will use for oil changes. He is an independent businessman and has to do a good job to stay in business. Jiffy Lube, Wal-Mart, or any other quick oil change place with about a 200% turnover rate will never touch my vehicle. I may pay a little more but I know who is under the hood.

Same here. The local mechanics, especially in smaller towns, live on "word-of-mouth-advertising" to stay in operation. They can't afford to get a bad reputation, so they will always go the extra mile. If I can't go to him because I'm traveling, then I go to a dealership. My oil changes cost from $2 to $5 more than the quickie places, but that's only about $20 per year or less! Well worth it to me.

I had a couple of bad times at JL.
1. I took new car w/3000 miles in for change, when i got home and checked filter it was from Mopar so I called JL headquarters, they said they sometimes buy from mfg.
I asked if I went to JL would they have more Mopar filters and he said that I might have gotten the last one.

2. I noticed person replacing oil plug with battery operated impact wrench, next time I go to change oil I find the plug cross treaded.
I now do all my changes myself, if on the road I go to Walmart where I can watch. Walmart seerms to be the better og the two.

I wouldn't think of not maintaining my car and truck myself. An impact wrench to replace a drain plug?? GEEZUS!!!! What moron would do that!?!?

My experience with a Jiffy Lube type place in Lake Havasu was much like others voiced above. I had to have my MH and autos oil changed and this place had an RV bay. I told them I wanted Mobil1 synthetic in the MH and that wouldn't be a problem. I watched them pour oil from Mobil 1 quart containers into the MH and do the other normal stuff. After leaving I noticed the oil pressure running higher than normal. After 200 miles, we stopped for the night and I checked the oil. It was brownish looking dirty oil. Never have I had that look while using Mobil 1 even after 3500 miles. Obviously they refilled the oil cans with drained oil. I change my oil in the rv park, (against the rules, but....) I saved the old oil to take it back to the oil change place next time we were in Lake Havasu. But in the meantime, they went out of business.

I'm sorry but I can't believe someone would pay 30-40-50 grand for a truck and then try to save 10 bucks on an oil change.

My "vehicle" is a fourteen year old van -- NOT my truck. I was in transit and Jiffy Jerks were readily and immediately available just like the time before.

I used to change my own oil but then had to store it before I drug it 40 miles to a disposal site. On top of that, I'm not nearly as limber as I used to be.

There must be a happy medium between paying dealer labor rates and employing people like Jiffy Jerks.

A new Walmart opened locally and I know they used to take oil off the store shelves for an additional $2 if you didn't like their house brand -- and you could watch them while they worked. But then again, maybe that would be "jumping out of the pan and into the fire".

If I started changing my own oil again, the money I save may go to the doctor instead.

Couple of questions to the OP;

1. What is an "emergency oil change"?

2. Whats with the "factory sealed oil in quart containers"?

3. Why post it here? Shouldn't you be talking to Jiffy Lube?

I take mine to the dealer, it has formed a relationship that has paid off, I am well taken care of by them. Unless its my beater truck then I do it myself and pour the oil on the burn pile.
