Forget reception! This conversion from analog to digital has NOTHING to do with reception, per se! It has EVERYTHING to do with freeing up bandwidth. BUT, a side effect of going from analog to digital MIGHT BE better reception simply because of the digital protocol...
forget reception??

Yep... it has NOTHING to do with the conversion... And this conversation is over!

You will be pleased with the converter box if you can ever find one to buy. WM has been out of them for quite some time here in the DFW metro area. I use one in the RV and it gives me crystal free pictures if I'm close enough to a broadcast area.
Just my 2 cents worth.
Happy camping and hope to see ya down the road!

On a side note I've had several people using basic cable tell me that the converter boxes will pick up several extra channels on basic cable.

I just can't believe how much money our government is spending on this program. All the commercials plus the rebates on the converter boxes. Is access to over-the-air TV a constitutional right? They didn't even spend this much money explaining the threat level color codes, or the move to 10% ethanol, or (insert important issue here).

The converter box will give you better reception on the digital channels now, and the rest in Feb. This is simply because a digital signal is smaller and stays intact better than an analog while traveling through the magical airspace. When it reaches your converter box it will have retained more of it's information and give you a better picture.

The box is electric. It's the size of a small dvd player. As far as I know they do not make a 12V box "YET". Personally I would bypass the converter box and buy an HDTV LCD! I now have 2 in my trailer (a 23" in the livingroom and a 19" in the bedroom).

I hooked up 2 boxes for my wifes grandmother last weekend. She's 85. After showing her the additional channels she would get and how much better the picture is, she decided she wanted her 'old' channels back. I unhooked the boxes and told her to call me in Feb.

Guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

I would also point out that there won't be any "new" signals in Feb. The signals for the most part are here right now. What happens in Feb is that the old analog signals get turned off.
