Low RV traffic in this region also. Like bufordt sez, this is a national disgrace.

What is a national disgrace is the defeatist attitudes that prevail in our society. Worldwide emerging markets are putting a strain on petroleum resources and thereby driving up the costs. As Americans we are used to having it all at a cheap price and those days are over.

Parking our toys in the side yard and not using them will not lower fuel prices. We must learn new ways to explore recreational activities and then share those ideas on open forums such as this.

Come on America, we created a vaccine against polio, defeated the Axis powers in WWII, put a man on the moon, built the Panama Canal and ended the Cold War, surely we can figure a way to enjoy our time off despite the rising cost of fuel.

Went to St. Louis last weekend (to visit an ailing parent), the KOA near Six Flags was pretty full, but not packed. Several families were there, one near us had 3 young kids, they were from Wisconsin. They parked their trailer then were driving to the MetroLink to go sight seeing at the arch. The kids were excited about riding on the train!! Great way to still camp and do things and sounded like it was going to be a memorable experience for the kids.

I saw many RV's enroute but can't really eveluate if more or less for this time of year.

Othertonka: I suspect a lot of the rental RVs are tourists from Europe - I have met a few that fly here and rent and RV so they can travel and "save" on hotels.

Also, now, coming to America is "cheep" for them and their Euro. Gas? Half the price of Europe. They LOVE it!

I don't care about the politics, or other explanations about this high price of gas. What is--is. I have my opinions, and I vote them.

I do know that I have not gone to the Black Hills this year; it's more than $1,300 since we did the trip in 04. I do know that we have not gone on week end trips, nor done many other touristo things. We wanted to go on a trip to Branson and Texas, but that won't happen, either. The addage that the increase cost of gas means buying 1 less t-shirt is BS.

Like it or not, the American consumerism employes a lot of people through out the world--try finding something actually made in the USA. If my fellow Americans have to cut back on the "extras", to put gas in their cars to go to work, feed their families, and to heat/cool their homes and cannot afforded these extras, the world economy will then suffer and other people will face the same downswing, too.

There, I'm calm now!

I don't think the gas price is affecting people in Chatt. We went to Chesterfrost Park last weekend and upon arrival Fri am there were 5 spaces available.

And the boat will stay on the trailer this years also. I will not spend my hard earned money to help fatcat oil company execs get any richer. I know that this also hurts those who make a living from tourism, but maybe if enough local tourist destinations get hurt by this gas pricing farce, they can put pressure on their legislatures to do something about this raping of the American Public. This is a national disgrace.

You think fuel will be cheaper next year? If you have a fiver and boat thats a big investment to just waste. Why don't you use them for what they are intended for? Do you think any of these fat cats making billions are going to care you have a yard full of toys you don't use?

Well I hope who ever has my favorite site in RMNP in Sept decides to stay home and cancels their reservation. I guess if they don't we will just have to get to know them as we have our third choice of sites. We have more plans than last year we will just cut back in other places. I have been riding my bike to work for a month only saved 50 gallons of gas but I have lost 10 lbs. That sure helped when I hiking with the dogs last weekend.

Why bother owning an RV.

I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.
