Right now I have one digital and one analog tv in the fiver. I always aim the antenna using the analog tv because I can usually find the stations even if the antenna is pointed in the wrong direction. Then I can rotate the antenna to fine tune the ones I want to watch and they'll be fine on the digital tv.

With digital, how do you know which way to point the antenna when you have no idea where the towers are? Point it the wrong way and you don't just get a faint signal, you get no signal.

slowly very slowly, in some way digital is better, but generally it a picturer/no picture. When tuned in, its good, but does not have the fringe pickup that analog does. Digital will pick up on a smaller fringe and pixelate. BTW the bat wing antenna is just fine.

The tower locations will not change, just the equipment at the station they broadcast with.

The digital tower location can be in a different location from the analog one. Here in the Albany, NY area, digital 13 is about 15 miles from the analog 13 site.
Most of the digital here is now on one tower, aim the antenna once - everything comes in fine.

When tuning with the conversion box, it has a beeper that beeps faster when the signal gets better. Don't know if digital tv tuners have beepers.

The box I got form WallWorld has an option under the menus for 'Antenna', when selected it shows a signal strength bar across the picture. I just rotate around until I get a good signal.

My HDTV's have signal strength bars. I'm not sure if all do, but this is how I tune mine.

This will tell you where the antennas are located. Digital is pretty important to be pointing in the correct direction.

There is a www page that allows you to input your location and then it tells you what compass heading to point the antenna but i can't find it now.

As john3872 mentioned, most digital TV's have a signal strength readout. Check your manual or poke around with the menu to find it.
