It's a good thing you could do something with them. I recall it was too hot for them to fly.

A few years back when I was in H.S.(like 50)I was working the Oklahoma/Texas Wheat harvest. On this particular day my job was driving a truck, hauling the wheat to the storage elevators in town. I was hauling for two combines and between trips they would dump their wheat bins on the ground if I hadn't made it back yet. I normally used a power auger to auger the wheat from the ground into the truck, however the auger broke down and ended up having to shovel it into the truck by hand. It was so hot that I would jump into a nearby stock tank about every fifteen minutes to cool off. When I got back into town that night I found out that it had hit a high of 135F that day. Thats what I call hot!!

Is the fact that there is virtually no humidity make it feel cooler than it really is? I hear you don't sweat in a dry heat.

You sweat, it just evaporates immediately. All the fun and games in the Middle East, and I never remember sweating too much. All my uniforms were covered in salt from the sweat though. Same thing with everybody else.
Because of this, you can't really feel how much you are sweating, and the danger from dehydration is increased greatly.
